Kitty is a self-proclaimed home and hearth goddess. One of her favorite things is creatively cooking and baking for her family.

The State Fair is an event that every kid looks forward to. The rides, games, and candy are enough to make any kid wish he could teleport to every state's fair every weekend. But what about for the adults? For the adults who aren't capable of handling the Tilt-a-whirl, there's always the eccentric plethora of state fair food to try out while your kids are losing their minds on rides. Ditch your idea of the typical state fair food, this year's state fair foods are much whackier than the typical corn dog and funnel's state fair food on steroids!

Check out some of the craziest state fair foods below, and vote in our poll to let us know which state fair food you've tried!

State Fair: Fried Food Frenzy!

Clearly there's a major trend with fried foods at the state fair. In fact, it seems more like a frenzy than an actual trend. Fried foods can be found on every corner of the state fair, and they come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and prices. Whatever your flavor, they have it.

At the Florida State Fair, my favorite fried foods are usually the vegetables - fried pickles, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, and fried green beans. But there is so much more outside the realm of typical southern fried foods.

Along the line of fried dessert, you can get almost anything sweet in a fried form including (but not limited to): fried oreos, snickers bars, twix bars, reese's peanut butter cups, chocolate, cookie-dough, twinkies, ho-hos, coca-cola, bubblegum, kool-aid, and more. If you can think of a dessert or candy, the state fair probably has a vendor that slaps some delicioussly-sweet batter on it and deep-fries it!

If you don't have a sweet tooth, then there are still fried options for you. Fried burgers are a big trend, and while they sound like a heart-attack on a plate...they are pure-bliss in your mouth. If you're a big butter person, great! Get your dose of fried butter at the state fair this year. Trust me, they have it available for your tasting pleasure. I admit that while fried butter sounded a bit overwhelming, once I tasted it...I changed my mind. Rather rich, but tantalizes the taste-buds nonetheless. And last but not least, fried mac n' cheese!

Funnel Cake Paradise!

One of my absolute favorite foods at the state fair is the ever-traditional funnel cake! All of that fried dough-y goodness, how can you beat it?

Let's check out some of the most delicious and daring toppings for funnel cakes at this year's state fairs:

  • the traditional powdered sugar
  • fresh fruit like strawberries, peaches, blueberries, bananas, and even pineapple
  • honey of all different kinds
  • flavored syrup - chocolate, strawberry, vanilla
  • jellys, jams, marmalade, and preserves
  • caramel and chocolate
  • ice cream and whipped cream

Crazy State Fair Food On a Stick!

What fair would be a fair without crazy food on a stick? In addition to the GIANT corn dogs and other fair commodities, you can find almost any type of food on a stick at your local state fair.

Have you ever had mashed potatoes...on a stick? Yep, it's possible folks. There are vendors at several state fairs that can fry just about anything and then spike it with a stick for your eating pleasure!

And of course there's my husband's favorite crazy state fair food...unidentifiable meat on a stick. Is it pork? Chicken? Beef? Who can tell? We don't care, as long as it's cooked well and mounted on a stick.

Crazy State Fair Burgers

Burger foodies will be in food heaven at the state fair this year. With all of the options for cheeseburgers, who could resist getting a little wild with their choices?

The craziest state fair burger I've seen yet is the Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger. You read it right, people. It is a cheeseburger with all the fixin's held together by two krispy kreme doughnuts. Sounds like a stroke waiting to happen, right? Well, many state fair-goers rant and rave about this burger...sweet, salty, and savory all in one. And me? Well, I've tried it but I'm not a big doughnut-fan!

Mac n' cheese burgers and all other kinds of whacky toppings are available at various vendors at the state fair. So go to the fair and pick some of the craziest foods you can find. You won't regret it! Okay, your stomach won't.

I'm the nerd checking out exhibits and watching my kids on rides. I discovered years ago that foods at fairs damage my wallet first, and then damage my waistline so I try to avoid them. :)

I've never seen deep fried drinks. Do they start with ice and cook them quickly? How messy would that be to eat?

I hate to admit it, but fried pickles are really good. The fried sweets are way too over the top for me though. Fun hub.

It is just amazing how many fried foods people have tried over the years! The food is always one of the most interesting parts of the Wisconsin State Fair. Thanks for the fun overview.
