Deer Preparation

Here in Alabama, there's only a few months of hunting season per calendar year. It is nice if there is someone in your family who likes to deer hunt because, they get to do something that they enjoy while also bringing home meat and helping the family. It is usually important that you know how to prepare the deer meat that will most likely be brought home after a hunting trip.

Our deer season is in the fall so, when deer meat is brought home it is usually prepared and some of the meat is used then but, also some meat can frozen for the winter months or later. My family loves deer meat. There are all kinds of deer hunters (whether male or female, young or old). Each person is trying to snag that big buck before the season comes to an end.

This is my least favorite time because it causes a lot of car vs. deer. Sometimes people end up getting hurt really bad from the deer. It usually always causes harm or death to the deer. With all of our bright lights from street lights to, car headlights, the deer are just confused by a lot of activity.

Deer meat can be a great way to save money by going hunting and bringing home your own meat vs. buying meat at the store. You can get deer meat prepared like ground beef and make burgers or tacos, whatever you want with the meat. Some people can tell the difference between ground beef and deer ground meat. I can tell a difference but, it's not a bad taste, just different.

Please just remember to follow all of the gun safety rules and hunting rules and you will not run into trouble. It is good to get the kids and teens involved with gun safety and get them involved with different things such as the proper way to kill the animals that you hunt and teach them wildlife preservation at the same time. While this is sport for most, some take it very seriously and spend big bucks (money) each year to ironically, kill the biggest buck.

If the meat is prepared correctly then, deer can be very tasty and very tender. If the meat is cooked too fast or if you are not sure how to cook it, it can be tough.

Ladies and Gents break out those crock pots and get ready to put them to good use! Although this recipe is particularly just talking about using the crock pot to cook the meat, you can also fix the meat baked in the oven. If you buy the oven bags, you could use this same meat and bake the meat in the oven and the oven bag will act as the crock pot, making it's own little oven inside the bag. These bags are also great to use when you want to have easy clean up.

You will find that the deer meat is so tender after soaking in the juices and heat of the orockpot that you can cut it with a fork.

This is another easy recipe that is a set it and forget it type of recipe. The recipes that require nothing but, throwing some ingredients in a pot and turning the knob, in my opinion, these are the best kind. I would have put more directions on the instructions section but, there's just not any!!

The gravy that is left in the crock pot, is great served with white rice that has been steamed to perfection. When I fix this meal, I also like to serve the deer meat with a fresh salad and some warm crusty bread. This makes mealtime easy to prepare and there is something for everyone. This is a great meal that you can throw all in the ingredients into the crock pot and leave it on all day or you could leave it on all night. This will allow the flavors to become more blended. For the best results, you can always make this dish the day before to let all the flavors blend. The extra time will just give the meat more flavor.

No, I've never had it and never really thought about it, but that picture looks really good. If they sold it here in the store, I'd buy it and grill it for sure.

    Deer In Many Forms

Deer can be prepared in many ways including grilled, baked and broiled. It can be barbecued and it's definitely a great idea to marinate your deer meat for at least three hours prior to cooking it.

Of course, however you want to fix this deer meat you can. In this particular recipe uses the crockpot for one of those kind of throw it together and forget meals. You know the ones I am talking about, you can put everything together and turn the crockpot either at night and it will be ready in the morning or turn it on in the morning and it will be ready that night.
