Dark Chocolate Cake With Rich Chocolate Frosting/Icing Recipe

Updated on November 9, 2013

I Love Chocolate!

I believe many would say the same thing. But until recently, I did not know that not all chocolates are created equal. I read studies that "dark" chocolate contains cocoa phenols which have shown to lower blood pressure. Not to mention it is rich in anti-oxidants which help fight free radicals, destructive molecules which contribute to heart disease and other ailments.

In the icing recipe, you have 1/2 tsp vanilla and then at the bottom, another 1 tsp. vanilla. How much is added, please.

Love the look of the icing. However, I have substitute butter with cream cheese and a tablespoon of buttermilk. It is delicious icing. I know you said no substitute, but I do not like butter in the icing. Thanks for the recipe.

Please can you share how you got the fabulous swirls on the cake? I have been admiring this icing for a couple of years, and can't figure out how to do this.

Can the white sugar for the cake be substituted with pure can sugar?

Made this frosting today, for cupcakes, and it's definitely keeper! I was looking for a deep choc flavor, and this is it. It was a bit of a challenge to mix, but I believe it's because of my weenie, wimpy mixer, lol. TY for sharing!

I made this tasty frosting, but it is much lighter, not deep dark chocolate as shown!
