Deals Worth Waiting For: Red Lobster Endless Shrimp

Updated on August 30, 2014

Deals Worth Waiting For

One of the ideas that lead to the birth of DealsForALiving is that navigating deals and maximizing resources makes life easier and more joyful. It spans everything that I'm passionate about in food, technology, news and media consumption, the workday and my work, and in relationships. The more I can share these things, then the more I get to see and hear people benefiting from these deals, and these snippets of wisdom (that's how I see it).

Closest to my heart are national and international deals that are offered by big brands, because they are there for the taking by thousands, even millions, of people. What comes to mind are Labor Day sales on furniture, annual food events, Black Monday, Cyber Friday, and end of the year clearance sales. And so I want to write about these things so you can join me in enjoying the fruits of our long wait!

Treating Myself to Red Lobster

I don't quite recall why or how I came to lust after Red Lobster so much. I imagine it was probably a TV commercial for Crabfest or Endless Shrimp that sealed the deal. Or maybe it was when I was watching a TV court show, and a woman told a story where talked about "treating herself to Red Lobster". Whatever the background stay may be, on the rare occasions that I do go out to a restaurant and dine there, I always take a peak at the ongoing specials at the scarlet crustacean.

I have so many lovely food memories there from endless soup and salad at lunch with endless cheddar biscuits, to snow crab legs and grilled scallops with the perfect criss-cross grill marks that are so appetizing. I always order the Boston iced tea which is a blend of brewed iced tea and cranberry juice when I go at lunch. And it's a dinner, then I'll usually grab a Samuel Adams on tap which goes nicely with their aforementioned cheddar biscuits.

The Details

So back to Red Lobster's Endless Shrimp! I go every year. I can't keep myself away. I've stuffed myself with plate after plate and a few years back I got very ill. I will say though that I think my sickness just coincided with my annual rite of passage.

In the past, there have been 4 or 5 varieties of shrimp that you can order from. You start with 2 orders, and once you've devoured those, you can order either one or two more orders from the list of 5. Because you can mix and match your orders, if you've got stomach for it, you can try all varieties and then make your way back to your favorites. That's how I roll!

You also get a salad and unlimited cheddar biscuits (I keep writing about these cheddar biscuits, what does that mean?) But most importantly, as long as you finish your existing order/s, you can continue eating their yummy shrimp.

Now, I do want to take a moment and share some words of caution. Obviously, stuffing yourself with food is bad in almost any case, but especially when you're at a restaurant, you're going to have to accept that your fat and sodium intake is going to be off the charts. Likewise, with that much shrimp, you're going to be taking in a lot of cholesterol, and depending on the preparation, saturated fat and other baddies will be in mass.

Of course, if you're considering Endless Shrimp at all then these worries will not stop you, and they may even encourage you to order one extra plate.

Endless Shrimp

My Plan of Action

In case you're interested, I've already put together my strategy for 2014:

  • Start with the salad with a light dressing like balsamic vinaigrette. Eating the vegetables early on will allow me to eat more shrimp.
  • Enjoy a cheddar biscuit while I'm waiting for a fresh order of shrimp
  • When it comes to ordering the shrimp entrees, follow a progression of light to heavy entrees (start with grilled and work my way up to fried)
  • My goal is to end up eating seven orders of shrimp so that I can try my favorite version a second time. But if I only make it to six, then I will still consider it a victory.

For 2014

Here's what we know about Endless Shrimp in 2014:

  1. Endless Shrimp begins on Monday, September 1, 2014
  2. It includes all you can eat shrimp, salad, and cheddar biscuits
  3. Six types of shrimp will be offered:
  4. Sriracha Grilled Shrimp
    Parmesan Shrimp Scampi
    Hand-Breaded Shrimp
    Garlic Shrimp Scampi
    Shrimp Linguini Alfredo
    Coconut Shrimp Bites

The promotion usually lasts for about a month, so if you've got shrimp on your mind, then make some time these next couple of weeks. Because if you miss out, then you have to wait a whole year for Endless Shrimp to return.

I haven't seen the pricing for this year but I'd expect it to still be around the $15.99 mark. Hope you enjoy it!
