Dirty Dozen vs. Clean Fifteen

Updated on June 2, 2013

Many of our fruits and vegetables are coming with an extra ingredient: tasteless pesticides found in alarming rates even AFTER produce is washed. Fruits that are not peeled before consumption have the highest levels of toxins simply because we are eating the very skin that was once saturated in bug-killing juice. Fruits, like bananas that come with a peel-able skin, are subsequently sheltered and therefore not so important to purchase organically. The dirty dozen are the 12 most important fruits and veggies to purchase organically, while the clean 15 are just fine to purchase non-organically. (See Side Bar)
