Dishwasher Cooking

Updated on November 21, 2011

Who doesn't hate washing dishes by hand? I do, and so does the kid. So an automatic dishwasher is nice to have.

But what about the energy and water used to wash a load of dishes? I hate feeling guilty too! So why not "multi-task" while running a load of dishes?

The water in the dishwasher gets heap big plenty hot! Hot food tastes pretty good. And yes... I have plastic containers that I refuse to throw away. So... an idea!

I put fresh veggies into a plastic container with an airtight lid, and pop that in when I do a load of dishes, and BOOM! Nice crisp, "steamed" side dishes.

I've cooked fish fillets to flakey perfection this way, reheated leftovers, and the list goes on.

Don't run the dishwasher JUST to cook, and always wait until you have a full load of dishes before turning on that "on" switch! Then if you have something to heat up or that needs a bit of cooking, go ahead and poke it into the dishwasher too!

You will save some energy, (electrical, and your own), and feel better about stooping to using the dishwasher!

Twilight Lawns, this is 100% true! It works. The food tastes good. And it kills 2 birds with one stone!

I don't use my micro very often at all! Food that comes out of a microwave comes out RADIATED, and I don't think that's good.

Has no-one noticed the growing numbers of colon cancers since microwaves became standard in the kitchen?

Your lower intestines hold "wastes" longer than the other parts of the digestive tract... ie: holding the radiated wastes longer.

You might give it a thought!

      Thanks for dropping by!

Please tell me that this is a joke, or that they are very lenient at the "home" and let the inmates use the dishwasher. I suppose you have to wash the plastic knives and forks which are obligatory at our institutions. ("No sharp instruments" is the usual policy)

Have you heard of the microwave oven, by any chance?

Great idea. I had to cook on an upside down iron until my honey moon (I was busy)was over to enable me to answer the door to allow the gas company to check the range before turning on the gas... I did not think of the dish washer... Great idea.

Thanks MPG Narratives! I gott'a admit... I'm a bit on the lazy side sometimes. But I really LIKE getting more use out of every kilowatt. For the environment, and my $$$.
