Disney Princess Birthday Cakes

Updated on May 23, 2013

Have a right royal birthday

The Disney Princesses have been in our hearts since Walt Disney introduced Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Tales of Disney Princesses give little girls dreams of castles and Prince Charming, that anything is possible. They give us the feeling that all of our dreams will come true.

This lens has multpiple pages. Menu at the top!

It's no surprise that Disney Princess birthday themes are so very popular. There are so many options for decor, food, invitations, and cake. Oh the cake. It's the centerpiece of any birthday party. It can be grand and beautiful. The possibilities are endless with cake. With all the combinations of cake flavors, colors, icing, and design, you can have thousand of Princess parties and never have the same cake twice.

Here are just a sampling of the stunning Princess cakes I have found. Maybe you will get inspired to have your own Princess party just to be able to have a cake like one of these.

Once upon a time...

Oh how things have changed

Did you know that cakes made for real Princesses centuries ago weren't like the ones we serve today? They didn't have plastic toppers or buttercream frosting. Old world cakes were more bread-like and were sweetened with sugar and honey. They usually had fruit or nuts added.

In medieval times, people would hide things like coins and thimbles in the cake batter. It was believed that the person who found the coin would enjoy wealth all year while the unfortunate person who found the thimble would never marry. Some traditions, like making a wish and blowing out the candles in one breathe, have lasted through the years.

More Disney Princesses

This is a very special Squidoo lens with multiple pages. There is a menu at the top or jump to next section.

Start with accessories

Get creative

Having a princess cake doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of money. You don't even have to be very talented. If you don't have a lot of money to spend then make the cake yourself. Don't freak out. You don't have to make a castle or a princess from scratch. Who says you need those things anyways?

A great way to make a big impression is to start with a basic sheet cake. You can bake one yourself or buy one. You can make the icing pink and add accessories.

You could add a crown or tiara to the top of the cake. Sprinkle it with edible candy pearls or glitter. Lay a wand on top. Use sparkler candles for added flare. Try setting a couple of princess figurines on the top. There are so many easy things

you can do to have a princess feel without all the hassle.

Liven up the table with confetti, glitter or even plastic jewels. Use your imagination and have fun.

Sparkler Birthday Candles

Imagine these surprise on your little girl's face when she sees these candles on her cake. She will feel really special. I liked them so much that I bought them for my daughter's princess birthday party this year.

Accessories add flare to your princess party table

You don't need a huge flashy cake. Adding small accessories will make your table a hit.

Good Houskeeping cake decorating tips

Place cake on a serving platter with strips of waxed paper under the edges of the cake. When finished frosting, pull out the paper.

Brush off any excess crumbs from the cake.

Use paste food coloring to get the most vivid colors.

Stand narrow end of decorating bag in measuring cup when filling.

Hold decorating tip close to the surface of your cake. Squeeze bag with even pressure.

Princess pillow cake - It is amazing what can be done with frosting.

On October 15, 2009, this lens reached the Top 100 on Squidoo!

On November 23, I took over custody. I have plans to develop the lens but it is a classic so the changes will be made fairly slowly. If you have suggestions on how the lens could be improved, then I would love to hear from you. Of course, it's also nice to be told that you like it aleady!

Please sign the royal guestbook - I love hearing from you

Very girly. I love it. Not sure about the multi-page format though. I like the top menu, but comments have been a but thin for the past month and I wonder if that is because the Guestbook isn't on the front page?
