An Easy Lesson On How to Make Cupcakes
So you want to know how to make yummy delicious cupcakes? Well you've come to the right place to learn, because we are cupcake baking specialists.
What Are Cupcakes?
Cupcakes are small, sweet and very tasty indvidualzed sponge cakes which can be plain,flavored or decorated with an icing or frosting decoration.
Most people love cupcakes and they are a favorite to have at any time of the day, although they are usually served at children's parties, baby showers, birthday partiies and even weddings.
How to Make Cupcakes - General Basic Recipe & Instructions
1. PRE-HEAT OVEN. Note, before you start mixing your ingredients you must pre-heat your oven at 190C, 375F, Gas Mark 5, howver if you have a fan assisted oven, you should reduce the temperature to 170C, 355F and Gas Mark 4.
2. Prepare Baking Tray
Line two 12 hole muffin trays with paper cases. Spray the cases with an oil spray (this is optional)
3. Basic Cupcake Mix
The basic cupcake recipe is very easy to make. These are the ingredients you need to get started.
- 175g All purpose flour (self raising flour)
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- 175g Caster sugar (superfine)
- 175g Butter or margarine (shortening)
- 3 Eggs
4. Mixing Cupcake Ingredients
First cream the butter and sugar in an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
Second, whisk eggs and gradually add to the butter mixture. So as to avoid curdling add 1 tablespoon of flour from the flour quota after each time that you add the egg mixture.
Third, sieve the flour and gently fold into the cupcake mixture. Add baking and continue to fold the batter.
5. Fill Cupcake Trays
Using a large serving spoon fill the cupcake cases 3/4 full.
6. Baking Time
Baking time should be between 15 to 20 minutes. However, you can test whether the cupcake is cooked by inserting a wooden toothpick into the middle If it comes out clean, then the cupcake has finished cooking.
Easy Demonstration of How to Make Cupcakes
It is important that the cupcakes are completely cool before you attempt to decorate them.
Light Glacé icing or frosting
- 450g Icing Sugar (confectioners sugar)
- Water (2-3 tablespoons)
Mix the icing sugar with a water until the mixture is smooth but not too runny, then spread thinly over the tops of the cupcakes. Flavorings and coloring can be added to the icing mixture such as lemon, orange or banana, and red, blue, yellow colors.or whatever color you wish. The cupcakes can be jazzed up even further by sprinkling, chocolate vermicelli, hundreds and thousands or small sweets on the icing before it sets on the cupcake.
Butter cream (butter icing)
- 450g Icing Sugar
- 250g softened unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons of milk
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and vanilla. Blend in the sugar, a quarter at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the milk, and continue mixing until light and fluffy. Keep icing covered until ready to decorate. In a bowl cream the butter with the vanilla extract. Blend in the icing sugar gradually, a quarter at a time should be sufficient ensuring that you beat well after each addition. Add the milk and continue to beat well until mixture is light and fluffy.
Place icing in a piping bag and swirl on top of the cooled cupcakes. or use a spatula and lay on the icing. (See video below on how to do this)
