Easy Salsa 'n' CreamCheese Chip Dip Recipe

Updated on June 4, 2011

If you are looking for a simple yet delicious snack to serve friends at a barbeque, party or just a small gathering then this recipe will do the trick. It may involve quite a few ingredients, but that only depends on how many ingredients you prefer in a dip. The ingredients that are listed below are to be used at your discretion. For myself, I like an array of ingredients (more texture and flavour!) as you will see in the list below. As long as you keep the major ingredients together (cream cheese, sour cream, salsa and cheese) feel free to play around with the other ingredients in the dip. This is how I prefer it and I hope you decide to try it. The preparation time is quick and this recipe can be served heated or cold.

Baking utensils needed:

  • 1 mixer
  • 1 small casserole (or any pot or bowl that can be put in the oven as well as in the microwave)
  • 1 small frying pan (if you intend to use beef with this dip)

Ingredients needed:

  • 1 8oz container of sour cream,
  • 2 8oz (465g) blocks of cream cheese, softened (for easy mixing)
  • As much shredded Cheddar and Mozzarealla cheese as you like
  • Salsa
  • Beef (hamburger meat)
  • Taco seasoning
  • Black Olives
  • Jalapeno pepper (Banana peppers, for a milder spice)
  • 1 Green or Red Bell pepper, optional
  • 1 onion
  • 1garlic clove

There are so many variations to this recipe (like I said above). This is how I make it.

First, sautee the beef with the onion and garlic, then add the taco mix. Set aside.

  • Mix the cream cheese and the sour cream together using a mixer.
  • For heat add the finely chopped jalapeno (remove seeds if too spicy) to the cream cheese mixture.
  • Layer the bottom of the small casserole with the cream cheese mixture.
  • Add a layer of cheese
  • Layer the salsa on top (make sure to not allow too much of the juices from the tomato get in the dip because it will be too watery).
  • Add a layer of cheese
  • The beef should be layered next.
  • Then you want to add the rest of the toppings. (Black olives, green/red bell pepper, extra jalapeno)
  • For the top layer add the rest of the cheese.

For a heated dip:Cover with aluminum foil and heat it up in a 350 degree F pre-heated over for 10 - 12 minutes, or until cheese is melted to your preference.

Serve with tortilla chips.
