Surprisingly some great party dips and sauces from the Amish and Mennonite cookbooks. Even a great Hummus Spread!

You might not think of the Amish and Mennonite people as being party people but they love to eat different party dips and sauces at weddings and church gatherings. These are just a few of their wonderful recipes.


2 cups garbanzo beans (dry measure)

¼ cup lemon juice

2 garlic cloves

¾ tsp cumin

1 Tbsp flax oil

¼ cup dried parsley

1 Tbsp Braggs (Liquid Aminos- an ingredient found in a health food store)

1/3 tsp caynne

3 Tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

Soak beans, and then cook until soft. Put garlic cloves through juicer or food processor with beans. Toast sesame seeds in oven at 350°, stirring occasionally. Mix all ingredients together. Spread on bread or over crackers.

Radish and Cream Cheese Spread

8 oz cream cheese

¼ cup soft butter

½ tsp celery salt

Dash of paprika

½ tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 cup radishes, chopped fine

½ cup green onions

Mix all ingredients except radishes and onions until smooth. Then stir in radishes and onions and chill for several hours to blend flavors. Spread on snack crackers.

Dill Dip

1 c. sour cream

1 c. mayonnaise

1 t. chopped onions

1 t. parsley flakes

1 t. dill weed

1 t. beau monde seasoning. (a seasoning sold under the Spice Islands label) You can Google to locate it.

Mix and enjoy.
