Fast Food vs. Home Food - Healthy Eating Ideas
Fast food is everywhere in our local environment. It seems there are five or more fast food places on every busy street. The television commercials are flooded with all types of fast food commercials. Many people eat out at fast food places more times than eating home cooked food. Fast food places are the most common for lunch breaks at our place of employment. And many people take their dates i.e. their girlfriends and boyfriends to these fast foods places. Most of these fast foods are processed, and left under heat lamps for long hours, until you buy it. Most fast foods are loaded with high volumes of salt and saturated fat. Consuming these so called foods in our bodies is not a smart idea; especially if we want to be healthy individuals.
A healthy person thinks about and eats healthy foods at any cost. Fried fast foods are cooked in very old and dirty cooking oil over and over again. Furthermore, eating at these places can eventually result in having high cholesterol problems, , most of all obesity problems, and many other serious health problems after a period of time. high blood pressure problems
It's sad when grown-ups become addicted to fast food, then their children also thinks that fast food is the way to eat. This is mainly why some people make appointments to see a colon doctor (Colonoscopist), and that procedure is not a good look, literally.
Eating healthy food is normal and natural. There was a "taco stand" that was recently in the news and media, stating that they have about only 70% non-beef products in their meat. The question is what was the other 30-40 % of their meat contained with? Speculations were that the other percent of the meat was kangaroo meat, eewwww. You would think people would stop eating at a place that told them this terrible thing about their food.
Fast food is cheap, convenient, and super-sized. But it doesn't have to be working against our bodies, though it is. This so called food affects a person's mind also. Just thinking that you want to eat greasy fattening processed food as often as one does, is enough psychological problems in itself. Learning to avoid fast food is a great strength. The money that is spent on fast food can be saved for more important things. You can save your money and learn to budget. Fast food is certainly a want, it is not a need.
Healthy Fast Food
Why is it called "fast food?" Well it's called fast food because it's already done when you order it. Not all fast food places have food that is loaded with saturated fat. Many people eat at fast food places that serve healthy fast food:
- El Pollo Loco
- The Olive Garden
Subway has healthy fast food, from their wheat subs to their tea drinks. Also at El Pollo Loco their chicken is not fried, it's grilled. Quizno's is a bit similar to Subway restaurants. And The Olive Garden has a whole menu of what we consider to be healthy fast food. Further, there are ways to stay healthy, and if we have to buy food when we're out just eat and think healthier. Many people like "all you can eat buffets." But I don't eat at these places often, maybe 1 or 2 times a year, if that. Choosing to eat at the healthy fast food places will potentially keep you out of needing a colonoscopy.
When buying fast food you can order grilled meats, such as grilled chicken sandwiches. Salads and wheat bread items are always a good choice, as well as drinking teas and water, not sodas and alcoholic drinks. (Yes, some food/fun places do provide alcoholic beverages, like Chucky Cheese). But anyway, we all don't have to be a Vegan or a vegetarian to eat and live healthier. If you find yourself needing to go to a fast food place, just order the healthy fast food. It will form a positive new habit in your lifestyle; renewing your mind about food choices is the key.
Eat Healthy Snacks - Avoid Fast Food
- Bring your home cooked food to work for your lunches, like left over spaghetti, or chicken breast from last night’s dinner.
- Add healthy snacks to your lunches, such as: carrots sticks, apple slices, raisins, dried cranberries, bananas, peanuts, yogurt, granola bars, power bars, etc.
- Always have bottled water all through your day. Drink at least 4-8 bottles of water daily.
- Keep dried healthy snacks in your car for travel, such as: peanuts, plain tortilla chips, bran muffins, oat bars, wheat chips, wheat crackers, etc.
- My personal favorite is carrot juice and V8 tomato juice. Natural vitamins in these drinks make for healthy food habits, and avoid the non-healthy food habits.
Home cooked foods will help you keep a healthy mind and body. By eating healthy home cooked meals you can enhance mental strength. Everyone wants a better and stronger mindset. There is a few ways to learn how to eat healthy at home a couple are: learn healthy recipes from cook books, and learn healthy recipes from friends or family. Having your own personal healthy eating cookbook will put you at an advantage for healthy cooking and healthy living.
Remember, avoid fast food that contain saturated fat; and when visiting a fast food place, order the healthy fast food. You want yourself and your loved-ones to eat healthy, think healthy, and be healthy. So cook a tasty healthy family dinner today and put on this new habit of eating. Eating healthier is a life style and an intelligent choice.
