Melon Filled With Fruit Jelly: A Sweetened Dessert

Updated on January 22, 2013

  • a melon
  • grapes
  • strawberries
  • an orange
  • a banana
  • a kiwi
  • half teaspoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons water

Cooking time: 15min. (20minutes in the refridgerator)

Cut the melon in half. Carefully take out the pulp with a big spoon. Cut the pulp and the rest of fruit in bite-size pieces. Mix the fruit in a bowl. Fill the melon halves with the fruit salad. Melt the honey in water then sprinkle the syrup over the salad in the melon halves. You can strew the filled melons with nut crumbles, chopped mint leaves or grated chocolate. Put the filled melon halves in the fridge for 20 minutes and then serve.

Optionally you can mix the fruit salad with cream or yoghurt but then the dessert is much richer with calories. Another idea instead of honey syrup is adding fruit jelly to the fruit salad in the filled melon and freezing it a bit longer. Such method of serving fruit salad is common in Japan. If you're using jelly for this recipe then you can slice the melon in slices when the jelly has become solid. Kids really love these melon/jelly snacks. With a bit of decoration you can turn the jelly/melon slices into little boats which would make excellent snacks for a kids party.
