Five Star Brownies

Updated on April 13, 2015

Who doesn't love a great brownie? Ok, I actually know people who don't like brownies, but they most likely didn't search for brownie recipes, so this obviously isn't for them. I've been making brownies since high school, which was a very long time ago. I've tried tons of recipes, mostly with good results. When my husband's grandmother died someone gave me a bunch of her recipes and this one was among them. I had no idea when I decided to try it that it would become the best brownie recipe I've ever used. People rave about my brownies, and I always tell them, it's not me it's the recipe. Anyone can make great brownies with this simple recipe.

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  1. Preheat oven to 350. Melt butter and shortening in large saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Add eggs and mix well. Stir in cocoa and flour.
  2. Line 9x13 baking pan with foil, leaving ends long enough to lift out when done. Spray foil with non stick cooking spray. Pour batter into pan. Bake 30 minutes. Cool in pan on cooling rack. Use foil to lite brownies from pan for easier cutting.
