Fondue Ideas - Fondue Party Ideas
If you have a fondue pot, such as the Cuisinart CFO 3SS Electric Fondue Maker, you may be looking for some fondue ideas. If you are trying to watch what you eat coming up with fondue ideas that will still be tasty, yet not quit as fattening as the usual fondue.
I am going to give you a few ideas that can help you to keep the calories down a but even though, of course, it will still be a bit heavy on the fat side of things. There is simply no way to make a really tasty fondue that is low fat.
Meat Fondue Ideas
If you are considering having a meat fondue, as is one of my fondue ideas, I still think that cubed pieces of rump steak is your best bet. Try not to make your cubes too small because then they will dry out very easily.To help reduce the fat content you can try and do that with your dips (see the recipe idea later in this hub) salad and bread.
Now with a meat fondue you are not going to get away from the oil to fry it in unless you make a really tasty homemade stock to cook your pieces in. If you use any old stock this is not going to result in tasty meat. For this option you have to make your cubes of meat smaller than for frying.
Fondue Ideas - Your Dip
I think this is one of the most important fondue ideas. Your dip is the one place you can really seriously cut on the fat to compensate for the oil you are frying your meat cubes in.
Here is one idea I use very often with great success. The first you have to make sure of is that your guests like curry as I use curry in this dip.
Making this dip is mostly a process of adding, tasting and adding some more if the tasty is not quite right for you yet.
Start with an amount of fat free yogurt that you think will be enough dip for the amount of guest you are having for your fondue.
Now I add curry powder to taste. This will depend on how hot you like your curry. Add plenty of chopped garlic chives and grated onions to taste.
After this I add an ample amount of turmeric, coriander and all spice. Add a little ginger and cinnamon. Be careful to make these not too overpowering. Lastly you add salt and pepper to taste.
As you can see, you will have to keep on tasting until you have the taste just right. It is worth the little more work as you end up with a fat free dip with all the taste to compensate for the oil you use for frying the meat.
More Fondue Ideas
The next fondue ideas is not very traditional with a fondue, but I find serving a good mixed salad is another way of filling you up. Make a mixed salad but do not use French dressing on your salad. Add a little bit of vinegar, salt, pepper and a pinch of sugar. You will be amazed at how tasty your salad is.
Another way to cup down on your oil and fill up a little more. Remember this also saves some meat and make the fondue cheaper if you need to budget for it. Get some freshly baked, crusty wholewheat bread. Cut it in slices not too thin, spread sparingly with low fat spread.
With these accompaniments you cut on the fat and you "stretch" your meal. I find it always work very well.
Fondue Ideas - What About Dessert?
For the last part of my fondue ideas I move away completely from the "normal" fondue ideas. In fact I do not make my dessert a fondue at all. Why not? Because I do not want to go in for that high fat chocolate idea and I'm not aware of any other kind of dessert you can use a fondue po for. If you do, please let me know.
I normally serve a very light and fat free dessert. I think we have had enough fat by now, don't you?
Make a light dessert by dissolving some low calorie jelly powder,any flavor you prefer, in about half the amount of boiling water as on the directions. Now I add some fruit cake mix that I have soaked in a good quality rum to make up the rest of the liquid needed for the jelly. I break a few Marie biscuits into the mix and stir it once ore twice when it starts to set to mix the fruit evenly through the jelly.
I serve this dessert with a low calorie custard. In South Africa when get a ready made "lite" custard and that is what I use.
