Freddys Frozen Custard & Steakburgers - Review
Northwest Arkansas is one of the fastest-growing economic areas in the country. In fact, in 2014 it is poised to reach a population of 500,000. With this tremendous growth comes a lot of new interesting places to eat. The latest is a fast food joint called Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, which just opened in the city of Rogers.
Since it's a new place in town, the building was packed. The lines when all the way to the door, and every single table was in use, with many others standing around waiting for something to open up. Of course, this has more to do with the excitement of something new than it does the quality of the food, so we didn't know what to expect.
California Style Burger
One menu item that caught my eye was something called the California Style Burger. As it turns out, this is Freddy's version of an In-N-Out burger. It comes with a special tangy Freddy's sauce, and when you order it with onion, you get a whole lot of onion! The meat in Freddy's burgers remind me a bit of Smashburger. They are pressed on the grill to create a crispy sear on the outside, while retaining a good amount of juiciness on the inside.
The french fries at Freddy's are very small and very crispy, much like the fries at Steak 'n Shake. Whether or not you like them depends largely on your personal preference. If you prefer a larger steak fry, then they might not be your favorite. As for me, I prefer a small, crispy fry, so I thought these were great. Also, they offer either ketchup or a special fry sauce (which seems to be a tangy blend of mayo, ketchup and spices), which I enjoyed.
Custard and Convenience
The frozen custard is really delicious and comes in a variety of interesting flavors. We tried the PBC&B (Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Banana), which was a big hit with almost everyone. My son didn't particularly care for the flavor combination of peanut butter and banana. One good thing is that the pick-up window for frozen custard is separate from the pick up window for food. This helps to speed up the process, so if you are just stopping by for a frozen treat and skipping the full meal, you won't have to wait for other people's burgers to cook.
Overall, we were impressed with the quality and taste of Freddy's food. It is well above average compared to other fast food burger joints, and it is a place we will be visiting again very soon.
