Frozen Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream Cake

My late mother Virginia Walker first made this cake many years ago and over the years I've added to it and changed it around so I could serve it to large groups of people. This cake isn't hard to make at all but you do need a spring form pan for the cake to turn out great.

I remember me and my brother begging my mom to make this cake. And a few times a year she could be talked into making this oh so delicious cake. My mom loved anything made with Oreos.

Don't be afraid to make this cake. If you have a spring form pan and just follow the directions your cake will turn out perfect. Below you;ll find some other recipes for delicious dessert items made out of Oreo Cookies. Yes I have a thing for Oreo Cookies.

Frozen Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream Cake Ingredients

1. One Large Package Oreo Cookies

2. One Pound Chocolate Pound Cake Cut Up In Small Cubes.

3. Two Quarts Vanilla Ice Cream At Room Temperature.

4. Two Large Chocolate Hershey Bars.

5. One Cup Hershey's Chocolate Syrup.

Spray the inside of your spring form pan well with vegetable cooking spray so that you can clean the pan up easily later and so the cake will come out of the pan easily.

Step 1.

Save back about three whole Oreos for garnish and in your food processor with the metal blade in the food processor chop the Oreo cookies up into course crumbs. Pour this out into a bowl.

Step 2.

Now you want to pour the chocolate pound cake cubes into a large bowl and pour one third of the crumbled Oreo cookies into the bowl with the cake cubes and mix it all up together. Now stir in a quart of the softened ice cream and gently mix it all together. Now you will want to pour the ice cream and cake mixture into the bottom of your spring form pan and gently press it in.

Step 3.

In a separate bowl mix the remaining ice cream and the remaining course chopped Oreo cookies and then swirl in half the chocolate syrup and pour it in the spring form pan on top of the ice cream and cake in the spring form pan already. This will fill your spring form pan nearly to the top. Drizzle the remaining chocolate sauce over the top of the cake and garnish with the three whole Oreo cookies you saved for a garnish.

Step 4.

Cover the top of the cake and then place in the freezer overnight. The next day you should be able to easily remove the frozen Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream Cake from the spring form pan and place it on a tray. You can if you wish cut it into individual slices and then return it to the freezer until your ready to serve it. If your not going to be serving it in the next hour or so you should cover the cake in the freezer.

When Your Ready To Serve The Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream Cake

You want to heat Hershey's Chocolate Syrup until almost boiling but not quite. You also will want to have a can of spray cool whip topping and a small jar of maraschino cherries.

Put a slice of the cake on a serving dish and then put a scoop of hot chocolate syrup over the cake. Then put on Cool Whipped topping and then a maraschino cherry and you have one of the most delicious cakes you'll ever taste. I guarantee you that anyone who tastes this cake will think it's the most delicious thing they have ever tasted and they will wonder how in the world you ever made something that good.

I've often made this cake in parfait dishes and froze it in the parfait dishes. I leave a little room at the top of the dish to add the hot chocolate syrup, the cool whip topping and the cherry.

I've also made this cake by using crumbled up chocolate brownies instead of the chocolate pound cake. If you have another ideal for how to make it do it. No recipe is written in stone. That's where thinking outside the box comes from. You can take a recipe and make your own changes to it and often come up with a delightfully delicious dessert.

If you have a ice cream maker and make your own ice cream at home make a run of vanilla ice cream in your machine and add two cups of fine chopped up Chocolate Oreo Ice Cream Cake to the mix before you make your vanilla ice cream. If you really want to jazz it up add in a fourth cup of your favorite M&M's. You'll end up with a ice cream that is available nowhere else and people will beg you for more of it.

This is a wonderful recipe. I make this chocolate trifle that has almost the same ingredients, except the ice cream, and i don't freeze it, but this one looks even better! I will try if for sure. Crazy for Oreos :)

Voting up, or stars.... What ever is there!
