These fun, themed concoctions are perfect for parties or any occasion, and can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Berried Treasure Smoothies are more than just a play on words. Great Blue Sea Slushies are perfect for summertime at the pool, beach, or backyard. And finally, Blackbeard Shakes are a delicious, decadent dessert. Shiver me timbers!

Berried Treasure Smoothie

"X" marks the spot with chocolate syrup in this tasty smoothie. Fresh strawberries are "buried" under a creamy blend of banana and peanut butter flavors. Once your little pirates drink the yummy smoothie, they can dig out the sweet strawberries with a spoon. This healthy drink can be enjoyed as a breakfast, snack or even dessert. For an adults-only treat, substitute a chocolate or vanilla milkshake for the smoothie and add a splash of Kahlua on the strawberries and in the milkshake.

Instructions for Berried Treasure Smoothie

  1. Slice strawberries into bite-sized chunks and place in bottom of clear glass or mug.

  4. With the chocolate syrup, make a large "X" mark on the top of the smoothie as pictured.
  5. Serve with a spoon so that the strawberries can be "dug up."
  6. Tips: If you use a fresh banana instead of frozen, omit the milk and add 3 or 4 ice cubes.

Great Blue Sea Slushie

Great Blue Sea Slushie

Enjoy Great Blue Sea Slushies at your pirate party, pool party, or for any occasion on a hot summer day. This simple recipe combines Pina Colada frozen drink mix with blue Hawaiian Punch. The stars of the drink are the red gummy Swedish Fish swimming in the blue ocean. To make a Great Blue Sea Slushie, follow these instructions:

  1. In a blender, mix 1/2 can of a 10 ounce pina colada frozen concentrated mixer, 2 cups of Hawaiian Punch Berry Blue Typhoon or Polar Blast, and 2 cups of ice. (The Berry Blue Typhoon flavor will give you a darker blue sea.)
  2. Pour slushie into a clear glass and add a few Swedish Fish.*
  3. For some grog, add rum, Matey!

* Since the Swedish Fish are small and a potential choking hazard, they should not be served to children three and under.

Blackbeard Shake

This frozen drink is dark and decadent since it was named after the infamous Blackbeard pirate. The brownie bottom represents the pirate's beard, and the cookie on top is his hat. Try serving this treat at a pirate birthday party for a change from traditional cake and ice cream. This drink is also a great dessert for all ages, on any day of the year. To make a Blackbeard Shake, follow these directions:

  1. Crumble one brownie and place in the bottom of a clear glass to serve as the pirate's beard.
  2. Make a vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream milkshake by blending 3-4 large scoops of ice cream and just enough milk to make a thick shake (about 3 tablespoons)
  3. Pour milkshake over brownie crumbles.
  4. Add half of a chocolate cookie on top of the milkshake for the pirate hat.
  5. Serve with a spoon and enjoy!
  6. Alcoholic version: Make with coffee ice cream and a splash of Amaretto or Kahlua. Fair winds, old salts!

Hi, cclitgirl. Blackbeard used to hang out in my area. I wonder how he liked the 100 degree weather. We might set a record today with this heat! Can't wait to read your Blackbeard hub.

I'll have the blackbeard's drink. I love the look of the photo and the taste is one I prefer. A brownie makes it even more of a hit with me.
