Fishy Strawberries? Maybe.

Watch the Dr. Weil video below for more information on the possibility of fishy genes spliced into your strawberries!

Do you know what you are eating?

The GMOs of today are not the gentle old natural modifications that Mother Nature makes. It is a bit more than mixing the pollen of several types of tomatoes or propagating tomatoes that naturally ripen in 60 days rather than 90 days.

The GMOs that we are consuming are more likely to be the man made mixing of a genetic materials from two totally unrelated organisms. This is done for financial reasons. The genetic insertion is not about health. The genetic modification is about making the producer money and that money is NOT being used to test how healthy these splices are in the long and short term. These products are sold to you before any testing is done on how healthy this is for the human body. How does it feel to know you are a science experiment in the making?

Why do you want to be a GMO test case for these types of bastardized (not done in nature!) gene splices? These splices are made for profit. The producer has little to no consideration for the short or long term health effects on your body.

Dr. Andrew Weil on GMOs

Dr. Mehmet Oz on GMOs

What exactly IS GMO?

GMO foods may be a mutation, insertion or removal of genes. This is not the Mother Nature version where a mutation is in nature. This is not the sweet pea example from your grade school science class as done by Gregor Mendel. Gregor Mendel did not splice pig DNA into the sweet pea genetic code!

Today’s genetically modified organism is capable of taking a gene from unrelated organisms and place them where nature would not place them: For example this would include taking an antifreeze type of gene from a cold water flounder and placing that gene in strawberries in order to make the strawberries frost proof. These types of modifications are made in order to make the product more cost effective for the producer. There is little if any research done on how this affects the health of the consumer. See the Dr. Weil video for a complete explanation of this phenomenon.

Both Dr. Andrew Weil and Dr. Mehmet Oz are trying to expose the problems with GMOs.

Here is what Dr. Andrew Weil says about GMOs:

Here is what Dr. Mehmet Oz says on the harmfulness of GMOs:

The long term working with plants to create a nature designed change is not what is meant by genetically modified organisms. GMO are closer to Frankenstein designs than Mother Nature’s Design.

Wheat is Drastically GMO changed

GMO Campaign to KNOW what we are consuming…

The GMO movement embraces a very realistic and achievable goal of labeling GMO foods. They want us to know what we are eating. Their point of reference is that they do not want to be a science experiment when they consume foods.

Point in fact; did you know that the wheat we are consuming today is radically GMO modified from the wheat your grandparents consumed? Today we have much higher gluten intolerance. Could the change in the basic building blocks of wheat genetics have anything to do with the new and extremely high gluten intolerance of today? Are the burgeoning modern day allergens to basic foods related to genetic manipulations foodstuffs?

The GMO information movement also points out that the deputy FDA Commissioner, Michael Taylor, worked for Monsanto a major GMO producer. Their point was that he is pro-Monsanto rather than pro-consumer. They have a point. The revolving door between the money-makers and the safety inspectors is shameful. There must be an independent in charge of looking at our foods and medicines.

The anti-GMO group does not take any radical actions. They are made up mostly of parents and middle class people who just want to know what they are eating.

Seems sensible? Yet, politics being politics the power of the business and their money has continually trumped the interests of the people who just want to know what they are consuming.

Genetically Modified Organisms in the food must be labeled in Europe, not in the USA.

GMO Information is Controlled by Big Biz

You should make your own GMO decisions. However, it is difficult to be educated as the information is being controlled by the GMO producers and their well funded campaigns. Here is a web site with over 50 articles written on GMOs.

Be informed. Information is power.

      Hey NMLady

I think the big question is why we consumers accept this stuff.

The testing is payed for by the same company that produces the GMO plants.

The controlling agencies are funded by the same companies that produce the GMO plants.

There is no reliable testing of the long term effects on people eating GMO plants.

GMO corn is everywhere, the corn in your flakes, your nacho chips, the sweetener in your soda even the ethanol in your gas tank comes from GMO corn. Plus the government subsidizes the crop with our tax dollars.

      My take on GMO:

Thanks. This started when I heard a proponent of GMO foods talk. It turns out he is being paid big bucks by the GMO people to spread his positive spin. It caused me to go and look into this.

Absolutely great hub and I love that you cited Natural News which is currently my favorite news site. It is criminal that there have been virtually no privately funded human studies on GMO foods - and so many people don't know, or care. I've been doing me best to avoid GMO's for over a year now, and feeling great. Thanks for sharing!
