Garbanzo Bean Recipes Are a Favorite

Garbanzo beans are also commonly called chickpeas. They are nutritious, filling, and cheap. Garbanzo beans can be made so many different ways. They are one of my favorite foods which I make sure that I keep stocked in my pantry.

Here is a garbanzo bean soup recipe that almost everyone likes. (You can't please everyone!)

This garbanzo bean soup recipe is delicious, filling, and easy to make! What more could you want? It makes enough to serve 4 - 6 hungry people.

Garbanzo Bean Soup Ingredients

Chickpea Soup Ingredients
2 15 oz. cans garbanzo beans (chickpeas), reserve 1/2 cup
2 15 oz. cans fire roasted diced tomatoes with garlic, undrained
1 15 oz. can vegetable broth (beef broth is also good for non-vegetarians)
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
1 cup orzo
2 teaspoons dried rosemary
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (basil is an okay substitute)
sea salt and cracked pepper (optional, to taste)

How to Make Garbanzo Bean Soup (Chickpea Soup)

Pour the tomatoes, olive oil, broth, and all but 1/2 cup of the garbanzo beans into a large pot. Let it come to a boil.

While waiting for the soup to start boiling, process the garbanzo beans in a blender until they are pureed well. I have actually mashed them up before by hand with a wooden spoon when my blender broke. It worked well enough. Add the pureed chickpeas to the rest of the soup. You can do this as soon as they are mashed.

After the garbanzo bean soup has come to a boil, turn the heat down to simmer. Add the orzo, Italian seasoning, and dried rosemary. Simmer the bean soup until the orzo is soft and tender. Stir often while waiting so the orzo doesn't get clumpy.

Add the salt and pepper if you prefer just before serving.

This is a really delicious and different chickpea soup recipe. Sometimes I change it up a bit by adding fresh garlic, which I love, vegetables that are handy, different types of diced tomatoes, the beef broth mentioned, and/or topping it with Parmesan cheese or hot sauce right before eating it. It's always good- hard to mess up this garbanzo bean soup!
