Garbonzo Bean Soup

Updated on July 25, 2013

Low Sodium Soup

My Dad has Atrial Fibrillation, a form of heart disease that makes his heart beat at a different rate than what is normal. Part of having this means looking for healthy foods to eat. I have come across a low sodium soup that is absolutely delicious and easy to make. The ingredients are simple, and it is a healthy alternative for cool winter nights. All of your sodium will be in the meat, for people on a strict diet you can easily substitute chicken or shrimp for the higher sodium polish sausage.

Cook Time

  • Prep time: 25 min
  • Cook time: 1 hour 30 min
  • Ready in: 1 hour 55 min
  • Yields: 12 servings

  • 2 Cans Diced Tomatos
  • 2 Cans Garbonzo Beans
  • 2 tablespoons Dried Peppers
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Red Wine
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  • 2 tsp Mrs. Dash Tomato Basil
  • 1 pkg Polish Sausage

  1. Chop onion into small pieces, open two cans of no-salt added diced tomatoes, and two cans of low sodium garbanzo beans. Put the onion and tomatoes in the soup pot, drain and rinse the beans. Add the beans to the soup pot. Add wine, water, and seasoning then simmer, for about an hour.
  2. Add polish sausage, and let simmer for twenty to thirty minutes longer. Then serve.
