Ingredients for German Red Cabbage Recipe

  • 1 med. Head of red cabbage sliced fine
  • 1 glove organic garlic (chopped fine)
  • 3 tbsp. organic Light Olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. Sugar
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1 organic onion (cut fine)
  • 1/4 tsp. Ground allspice
  • 2 tart organic apples (cut in halves, peeled and cored)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp. Ground gloves
  • Water, as needed to keep from settling on bottom

Instructions for German Red Cabbage Recipe

  1. Have vinegar ready in big bowl before cutting cabbage.
  2. Cut cabbage very fine and place in vinegar bowl, tossing to mix. (This helps to retain good color) Sauté onion in oil.
  3. Drain vinegar, add cabbage, salt and pepper, sugar, spices and apples, cover and cook for 1 – 1 1/2 hrs.
  4. On med to low heat, checking and stirring periodically to make sure there is enough water on bottom.
