Gluten Free Bisquick is a Baking Miracle in a Box

It's no secret that I tend to use a lot of gluten free Bisquick. This baking mix works well for so much more than just pancakes or biscuits. Cakes, cookies, scones and pie crusts are a breeze to throw together. It works well in pizza crusts, stromboli, or as a coating for chicken or fish, just to name a few. And lately there are so many recipes calling for gluten free Bisquick on Youtube that it could make your head spin. Many of them I published myself.

Yes, the mix is quite good and very versatile but it is also very expensive. And for many people living overseas this gluten free baking mix isn't even available. The question I'm asked most on my blog and YouTube channel is what can be used as a substitute. The quest was born. I started with the ingredients list on the Bisquick box then adjusted the ratios until I felt I had a mix that I was confident would work nicely as a gluten free Bisquick replacement.

Xanthan gum acts as the glue in baking mixes.

The Gluten Free Bisquick Copycat

Using just 7 simple ingredients, it's quite easy to replicate a baking mix that is very comparable to gluten free Bisquick. This baking mix I've listed below, is essentially a gluten free self rising flour. If you happen to be looking for a lite flour to make your cakes and cookies without the leavening agents, simply blend together the first 3 ingredient on the list and skip the rest.

Ingredients for the Gluten Free Bisquick Copycat:

  • 2/3 cup rice flour
  • 1/3 cup potato starch
  • 1 tsp xanthan gum
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar (omit if being used in a savory dish)

it is available here but so incredibly expensive,2 cups for almost 6$ or more and the main ingredient rice flour and the box is only the size of a cake mix box, and the bag inside is only half full, insane!
