Updated on May 10, 2018

How To Create Southern Food That Is Heathy and Good

#Healthy Food With a Twist (Serving for Four)

So you think brown rice cannot taste good. Try this recipe and people will be asking for your recipe. My family enjoys this dish every time I make it.

Place in a microwavable dish - 2 cups Instant #Natural Whole Grain Uncle Ben's or Store Brand Brown Rice.

Mix also in two cups water a packet of Onion Mix.

Then add half of a yellow or red onion, one chili pepper (remove seeds if you do not want the rice to be spicy)

Pour liquid mixture over brown rice and stir.

Cook in a microwavable dish for ten minutes.

Once rice is done after five minutes, fluff with a fork.

You can sprinkle green onions or parsley over the fluffed rice.

Southern Style Turnip & Mustard Greens

These southern-style greens have a kick that leaves your family desiring more of these delicious and healthy southern style greens.

In a medium-size pot place 2 cups water.

Add one packet Lipton Onion soup mix.

Crush and dice one clove of garlic and mix it well within the pot.

Add two smoked turkey butts. Let them cook for 30 minutes on medium heat.

Thoroughly clean 1lb turnip and 1lb mustard greens by washing them once with a half teaspoon of dish detergent. Rinse thoroughly twice and drain.

Remove turkey parts and cut into pieces. Place greens in the pot with the mixture and then add the cut turkey pieces and stir.

Season with a tablespoon of Kosher or Sea Salt and stir again gently.

Cook twenty minutes or until your desired texture. If you desire spicy greens sprinkle red pepper flakes over the greens after you have cooked them.

#Southern Style Barbeque Pork Chops

These southern-style pork chops have established their own reputation. Many #cooks have duplicated this recipe and have made it their own.

Gather at least four Medium-size pork chops. Season on both sides each chop individually with #Kosher or Sea salt and black pepper.

Sprinkle also on both sides with #Italian seasoning and Dill. Place in oven at 350 for 20 minutes. Preferably 10 minutes on each side of chops.

While they are cooking prepare a southern style barbeque sauce.

Mix two tablespoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of onion and garlic powder in a bowl.

Mix with one cup of honey barbeque sauce along with a chopped onion and garlic clove.

Brush pork chops on both sides with sauce after they have cooked twenty minutes.

Set oven on broil and pour lightly over the chops, liquid smoke. Place chops in the broiler for three to four minutes on both sides.

If you have thick pork chops base the broiling time for your desired texture. Then simply enjoy!

#Southern Style Iced Tea with a Twist

This iced tea is a family tradition that never fails. We can never have a family gathering without it. The flavor of lemonade, limeade, mint an sweetness leaves your guest begging for glass after glass.

Take ten bags of decaffeinated iced tea and tie them together. Boil about ten bags in a gallon of water to be placed in the large pot for about 15 minutes.

Remove tea bags and pour a can of frozen lemonade and one can of frozen limeade along with 2 cups of sugar.

Stir and taste to see if you prefer more sugar to your likeness.

Add a handful of fresh mint leaves and continue to stir. Serve over ice or you can prepare this tea a day or so ahead and drink without ice after it has been refrigerated.

Southern Style Delicious Fruit Salad

A fruit salad that will leave your guest complementing the refreshing, sweet taste of a variety of fruits. My mom often prepares this in the summer and it is always a favorite over other desserts.

In a large bowl cut up one pineapple into chunks or buy chunk pineapple in a can.

Rinse one carton of strawberries and blueberries and pour in.

Cut one-half watermelon into chunks.

Include one cantaloupe and cut into cubes.

Pour a large can of pineapple juice over the fruit and mix well. Chill for an hour or more.

Serve in cocktail glasses with a sprig of mint. Enjoy!

There are so many recipes that I create from the Lipton Onion Soup Mix. It really is an outstanding beginning for so many dishes especially fresh greens mixed with fresh crushed garlic. It is also an excellent start for all types of meats. Try this starter for dishes, you will love it.
