Grilled Pizza made on the BBQ
Pizza on the BBQ
Have you ever made a Pizza on the BBQ? Well I never did until last night. So of course I photographed it so I can share with you just how easy it is to do. In addition to that it was absolutely delicious. So let me tell you how you can do this at home yourself and what you need.
Obviously you will need a BBQ - that is the whole point of this recipe.
- Pre-Made Pizza Crusts - You can use Bobali Pizza Crusts - they are perfect.
- Olive Oil
- Pizza Sauce or Sauce of choice
- Cheese - lots of cheese - We used Mozzarella
- Toppings for your Pizza

Our Topping Choices
The toppings we chose to use were:
- Fresh Mushrooms
- Red Peppers
- Onions
- Artichoke Hearts (not marinated)
- Black Olives
- Meatballs
You will need to pre-cook your toppings - so we sauteed the Mushrooms, Onions and Peppers in Olive oil (or EVOO as Rachael Ray would say) until they were the consistency we liked them. Then we took them out from the pan and added the Artichoke Hearts and just heated them up for a minute or two.
The Meatballs were pre-cooked and we heated and cut them up just prior to topping the Pizza.
Of course this is a Pizza and you can add anything top the top you would like - that is why pizza is so much fun. It is also a great dish minus the meatballs for Vegetarians. I love veggies so that was my pizza of choice - my son he preferred the meatball.
Griling the base
Grilling the Pizza Crust
Before you can get to the fun part of building your pizza you must first Grill the crust a bit. To do this you take some of your Olive Oil and brush some on both sides of the crust. Then you can now take that to your Grill/BBQ. Make sure to grill both sides of the crust for maybe 2-3 minutes until it is crispy to your liking. Once you add the toppings and add the pizza back to the grill it is really just to melt the cheese and heat it all up together.

Building and Grilling your Pizza - The Fun Part
So now you get to build. Take the crust from the grill and bring it to your building area. Add some sauce to the top of the crust, then some cheese (the more the better as we say), now add the topping you would like to the top. Ok you can add more cheese on top of that too - lol. Sprinkle some spices if that is what you like and then you are reay to return it to the BBQ to finish cooking.
We had 4 Pizzas so with each one we made them a bit different with the toppings we had to have a nice variety of choices when it came time to eat. When you are all done adding your toppings you can now take them to the BBQ to grill.
You will probably have to cook them one to two at a time depending on the size of the grill you have.
Once back on the grill close the cover and cook until the cheese is all melted and just the way you like it. NOTE: We put our pizza directly on the grill, but you can use a Pizza GrillTopper if you wish. This will not take long at all. So be ready to eat really soon at this point.

Pizza Time
Now your pizzas are all done and ready to eat. One important thing here - make sure you have a good Pizza Cutter. That is a must in our home. We cut our Grilled Pizzas into 4 slices each being they were small, but you can cut yours any way you like.
Now get your plate, napkin, drink and pizza and enjoy. These were some of the best homemade pizzas we made.
My next Grilled Pizza will be a Greek one where I will add on Feta Cheese and Spinach - looking forward to that.
So next time it is Homemade Pizza Night in your home - Grill your Pizza and forget the oven.
Pizza Peels come in handy as well
