It is important to have a great tasting sauce for anything from the main dish to desserts. I would say that food is just generally better if there's a great tasting sauce that you are not experiencing.
Sauces for Everything
Here are some of my favorite sauces of mine (if you don't mind) for main dishes as well as desserts, that use some simple ingredients. Whether your sauce is for a main dish or a dessert, these short recipes are sure to please.
There are sauces that are used in all kinds of different recipes. There are dessert sauces, and sauces to go over chicken, potatoes, asparagus, and some sauces that go over meat.
When I received 30 minutes for lunch, I would take my lunch to work almost each and every day. At times, I would forget which sauce that I have to bring with my meals. If that happened, I would just bring the sauce for my different dishes, most of the time. There were instances, That the sauce can be left off, and you can still enjoy the recipe. I didn't enjoy the walk to the cafeteria, pay for it and walk back, it is not worth the office.

This sauce would be great when used for dessert. What I remember about maple syrup from my childhood, is putting maple syrup on biscuits at breakfast time. You can butter your biscuits or serve them without butter.
You start with 1 cup of maple syrup.
Then stir in:
1/4 cup toasted nuts
1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt (whisk into the syrup)
(8oz.) package of softened ream cheese, whisk in with the hot syrup
Some additional serving suggestions for this maple syrup: Great to serve over fruit, ice cream, yogurt, pound cake or non-frosted cake or, whatever else you can think of where this great flavor combination can be used.
Homemade Alfredo Sauce
Start out with:
1 cup of Alfredo sauce
then stir in the cooked bacon, chicken, seafood or meat (1/2 cup-1 cup).
This can be served over pasta, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes or rice. A great sauce recipe to have in your back pocket. Although you usually think of this as an Italian dish, or at least I do, it can be used for many different things,
Homemade Pesto Sauce!
Pesto is one of those things that I love. Pesto, however, has a lot of flavor and if you want to maximize your recipe, you will want to use this pesto recipe whenever you can.
1/2 cup pesto
Mix it with mayonnaise, plus 1/2 cup milk, and keep adding the milk until you reach your desired consistency.
This is great served as a dressing for pasta or chicken salad. Pesto can be used for so many different recipes. Adding the pesto to your recipes can really change up the flavor.
Homemade BBQ Sauce
Different Types of BBQ Sauce
This will equal 1 cup of BBQ sauce.
1/2 orange marmalade or cranberry sauce
1-2 tablespoons Brandy
1-2 tablespoons dijon mustard
This can be used as a baste and sauce for grilled meats and poultry or as a sauce for cocktail hot little smokies and meatballs.
Homemade Chocolate Sauce
Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream Topping
- Easy Dessert Sauce
- Combine the 1 cup of chocolate fudge ice cream topping.
- Stir in: 1/4 cup peanut butter 2-4 tablespoons Amaretto, Kahlua, Rum or Brandy
- You can serve this over ice cream, yogurt or it is quite tasty on brownies. There are lots of other possibilities for this chocolate fudge sauce.
This is going to be for the prep time, not the cook time.
You don't have to cook this particular sauce so, instead of cook time, this will only be prep time.

Different Types of BBQ Sauces
Tasty Original Sauces
Gravy is a great sauce and can be used in many different recipes.
Start out with 1 cup of gravy.
(1/4 cup) sour cream or yogurt
Cooked meats or poultry (1/2-1 cup)
Sliced mushrooms (1/4-1/2 cup)
You can serve this great combination over noodles, rice, cooked potatoes or biscuits.
Yogurt Sauce or Sour Cream
This particular sauce can also be used or you can use 1 cup of sour cream.
Picante sauce and red or green salsa 1/4-1/2 cup
Chopped green onion or sliced ripe olives 2-4 tablespoons
This is great to be served as a dip or used in taco salads. It is also tastes well on burritos, tortilla roll ups or good on top of cooked eggs.
Whole Cranberry Sauce
This recipe will equal 1 cup of whole cranberry sauce.
1/2 orange juice
1-2 tablespoons Brandy
1/4 cup chopped pecans
This can be served over ice cream, yogurt or pound cake or not frosted cake and don't forget to use this sauce for Thanksgiving.
Start out with 1 cup of sour cream.
1-2 tablespoons horseradish
1-2 tablespoons dijon mustard
1/8-1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Some serving suggestions:
Sour cream itself can be used as a heated sauce for the cooked beef and to serve cold you can you this sauce as a sandwich spread or dip. It is the base for a lot of different dips.
You may use one cup of marinara sauce or a can of seasoned tomato chunks.
1/4 cup whipping cream or Alfredo sauce
cooked vegetables (as directed)
1/2-1 cup of the cooked meats, of your choice sausage or poultry
I do love a lot of sauce so, if you cooked several vegetables together, then you will want to increase the amount of sauce that you use. If you are cooking for a crowd, double the recipe.
