Homemade Flautas Verde: A Simple and Delicious Recipe
Making Flautas at home can be both fun and rewarding. Here is a simple recipe that can be followed to produce great results.
First, you will need the Chile Verde. This can be made by first gathering these ingredients; Jalapenos, Cilantro, Pablano Chiles. I like to use a food processor to quickly chop and somewhat liquify the mixture into a salsa texture.
Then I get meat, usually pork, but any will do. Then I pour the chile mixture into the slow cooker. Chop the pork into cube sized pieces, turn on the slow cooker and let it do it's magic for about 4-5 hours. The great part about this, is that you can make this portion of the dish the night before you desire to serve it or on the morning of. You can also let this part cook while you are at work if you want really tender meat. Add salt to get your own desired taste.
Once the meat is prepared, you can make the Spanish rice by simply gathering your rice of choice, I prefer Jasmine, washing it, putting in the right amount of water based on how much you are cooking, then add some regular hot sauce such as Valentina's, Tapatio, or Tobasco with the rice and let the rice cooker do its magic.
Once that is completed take some rice and verde and wrap them tightly into a flour tortilla. Fill a pan with a little bit of vegetable oil, and fry them, first where the tortilla end is to secure the shape. Then you can change sides and fry to your degree of liking. Once done, remove and place on a plate with a paper towel to let them rest.
Once the flautas are done, cut some pieces of tortilla into strips and fry in the same manner. After just a couple of minutes they should be done.
Plate the flautas over a bed of Spanish rice topping them with some of the verde sauce. Also, place some fresh tortilla chips on the side with a slice or two of avocado.
And....WALA! You are ready to enjoy!
