Spicy Chicken

Updated on February 13, 2015

Spicy chicken

The spicy chicken marinates in the spices for an hour before being cooked.

The chicken legs and thighs I used are cheap and very tasty and make a wonderful meal for four. I take the skin off before I start but its your choice.

Ingredients for the marinade:

1teaspoon of Garam Masala This is a mixture of spices, sometimes, cumin, coriander seed, paprika, turmeric, etc.

1 teaspoon each of the following,

sat and pepper

About 50 mls of cooking oil

1 small onion

2 cloves of garlic.

A tablespoon of corn flour mixed with cold water.

1 tablespoon of hot chilli sauce.

Put the chicken in an oven proof dish.

Mix the dry spices with the oil and rub over the chicken.

Add the chopped onion to the dish and chop the garlic and spread it around.

Let it marinate in the refrigerator for an hour.

Marinating chicken

Cooking the chicken

Pre-heat the oven to maximum temperature, then cover the chicken in hot water. put a lid over the chicken and put the dish in the centre of the oven.

After 20 minutes turn the temperature down to gas mark 2, 90C or 300F.

Cook for an hour then take it out of the oven and add the corn flour dissolved in cold water and the chilli sauce.

Replace in the oven and cook for another hour.

Serve with potatoes and veg of your choice.

This spicy chicken is really delicious.

A gorgeous meal

The recipe does sound good. For the reader who asked about garam masala, I believe that in America we frequently just call it curry powder. She should try to find an authentic Indian gocery store if she can because there are many versions of garam masala and of course, you can always grind your own spice mixture.

Looks good, scarytaff (and the veggies in the picture look delicious, too!) I love the flavour of garam masala so I think this would be a winner.

Thanks - Up/Useful, I have bookmarked it too.

NMLady and prektjr.dc thank you both for commenting. Garam masala is a mixture of spices that come ready made in a jar, generally for cooking Indian foods. It can be many varieties of spices but the one I use has ground turmeric, cinammon, black pepper, cloves, ginger, dill and cardamom in it.
