The Edible Flowers

Flower cookies can brighten anyone’s day. You can easily make them for a fraction of the cost of having a cookie flower basket delivered. You just need a little know-how and time to create.

What You'll Need

You’ll need to make some sugar cookies along with some royal icing. And you’ll need a large cookie cutter that is the shape of a flower and lollipop sticks. That’s about it. A container that you’ll place your bouquet in is also an option if you want to make a centerpiece or give the gift of a bouquet.

Tips & Tricks

You’ll make the sugar cookies and roll them out as usual. But before you bake the cookies, insert lollipop sticks. If you don’t insert them before, there’s no way you’ll get them in once the cookies are baked without breaking them.

When to Decorate

Decorate the flower cookies when they are cooled with royal icing in fun floral colors. Then individually wrap the cookies if you want to keep them fresh or just leave as is standing in a vase for display before giving. The cookies will last only a few days before hardening, so give them or eat the flower cookie bouquet right away.

Royal Icing Recipe

After you've made your cookies, you will need to make your royal icing. This icing hardens when dry, making it a favorite for durable decorations such as flowers and leaves and ornamental writing on cookies, candies and other fun treats.
