How To Make Delicious Sugar Cookies from Scratch

This is so easy to make and you can make quite a bit too. Sugar cookies are the greatest kids cookies ever. Children Love to decorate cookies on any special event or just for fun! These cookies are a much healthier choice, since you are making them at home, which is without preservatives and made with the same products but instead maybe using organic or sugar free recipes.

Cook Time

Cook time: 8 min
Ready in: 8 min
Yields: about 5 dozen cookies

Items Needed

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Large mixing spoon
  • cookie baking sheet


  • 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar (organic optional)
  • 1 cup of margarine or butter softened (organic optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar
  • granulated sugar

Please Note: If you are using rising flour please do not add the baking soda and cream of tartar


In you large mixing bowl Mix these ingredients:

  • sugar (organic optional)
  • margarine or butter (organic optional)
  • vanilla extract
  • almond extract
  • 1 egg


  • Now stir in your remaining ingredients except for your granulated sugar because this will be sprinkled on later.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 3 hours


  • Kneed into dough and make it long circle roll to be prepared to cut into cookies
  • Optional ( cut dough into 1/4s to roll out dough and use cookie cutters)
  • Once cookies are cut you will sprinkle the cookies with your your granulated sugar.
  • Place your cookies on your lightly greased cookies
  • bake until edges are lightly browned.

Preheat your over to 375 degrees

cook for 7 to 8 Min's

This Will Make 5 Dozen cookies :)

Some Great Ideas for decorating cookies

Just Make your own frosting and frost the cooled cookies. You can color your frosting with food color to make your cookies look great with some chopped nuts or even some small candies.
