Many have already began thinking of ways to eat more healthy calories because of health concerns and smoothies are a great place to start. It is not reasonable to stop eating sugar right away after all our body is craving it.

However, you can replace sugary breakfasts and desserts with healthy smoothie choices. Sure we all love sugar but replacing healthier sugar by using fruit will help us avoid many ailments, pain and weight loss hurdles.

Healthy refreshing smoothies are great all times of years especially in the summer. When the weather is cooler you can omit adding ice or freezing your fruit or just let your smoothie sit to take most of the chill off before you begin to enjoy it.

Just thinking about those refreshing smoothie shakes are making my mouth water. But after finding out that my favorite smoothies were filled with so many calories and were costing me a forture, I resorted to making my own.

You can make your own frozen and smoothie drinks that 200 calories per serving.

Low Calorie Smoothie and Frozen Drink Recipes

Hawaiian Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 papaya
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup plain fat-free yogurt
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • crushed ice

Directions:

Blend all ingredients in a blender and enjoy!

This makes 2 servings of this delicious drink and at only 173 calories per serving.


Banana Chocolate Smoothie Shake

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup skim milk
  • 1tsp. low fat sweetener (optional)
  • 1 tbsp.fat-free chocolate syrup
  • 8-10 ice cubes

Directions:

  1. Combine banana,skim milk, sweetener and, chocolate syrup in blender.
  2. Cover and mix for 1 minute.
  3. Add ice cubes, one at a time, mixing until smooth.

This recipe makes 2 servings at only 155 calories per servings.

Orange Smoothie Delight

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 cup instant nonfat dry milk
  • 3 or 4 ice cubes or frozen fruit
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla

Directions:

  1. Put all ingredients in blender and mix on high for 15 to 30 seconds or until ice is crushed.
  2. Optional 1/2 cup drained pineapple and 1/4 teaspoon coconut extract for pina colada flavor.

This recipe makes 1 serving and is 188 calories.
