Kids Love Fresh Popcorn

The Perfect Snack, it's Healthy and Delicious!
Popcorn is a regular snack in our house. I make it after school and save some for the next lunch snack or I make it fresh in the morning before school mmmm, it smells so good. I'll make it for the kids pretty much anytime they ask for it and does that make them happy! It's healthy, nut free (a real consideration for school snacks these days), very cost effective, and if you make it yourself, it's pennies to the batch - you can't say that about too many things these days. We don't eat chips anymore and are eliminating all processed foods, and the fact that my daughter and her friends love my popcorn makes it the perfect snack.
In the last 6 months I have taught 6 care workers how to make popcorn on the stove. I am amazed that so many people have no idea how to do it, so I'd like to share my proven method of making perfect popcorn using a pot on the stove...
You’ll Need: 1 Pot with a lid (the bigger the pot the more popcorn), popcorn (we use organic), oil (our choice is organic sunflower, but any will do), butter (optional) and any other toppings you may like.
Method: Turn the stove onto a medium high heat. Cover the bottom of the pot with a thin layer of oil. Place the pot on the stove and put 3 kernels into the pot. Place a large bowl beside you at the stove to pour the finished popcorn into. When the 3 kernels have popped pour enough popcorn into the pot to cover its bottom with a single layer of popcorn kernels. Put a lid on the pot and wait for the sounds of the first kernels popping. When the popping starts, holding onto the lid, slowly shake the pot back and forth over the element until the sounds of the popping have slowed completely. Turn the heat off the stove, take the lid off the pot and put the popcorn into the waiting bowl. Put the pot back onto the stove and put butter into the pot to melt. Drizzle the butter over the bowl of popcorn. We add nutritional yeast and parmesan cheese to the popcorn as well. Add your favorite toppings to personalize it and enjoy!
a Note: We use organic popcorn because it is the only corn that isn’t GM affected. We use sunflower oil for its flavour and it hasn’t been GM affected. The nutritional yeast has a nutty flavour that the kids love. My weakness is butter and one day we’ll have goats and make our own! Happy Snacking :O)
