Smores

Smores are a classic sweet treat that are perfect for camping, bonfires, picnics and barbecues. But what if you want to make them at home. There's a quick and easy way to make a tasty treat with your oven's broiler.

The traditional smore starts with roasting marshmallows over an open fire, chocolate melted on the graham cracker and then the marshmallow is added and sandwiched between the two crackers. It's a rich and gooey treat that kids love. It's a lot of work to go through if you want a smore at home, but there is a quick and easy way to make a dessert for kids in the oven.

Place the smores in the oven

  • Set the oven's broiler on low and let it heat up
  • Place three large marshmallows on a full sized graham cracker
  • Place six squares of chocolate on a graham cracker

They can be placed directly on the oven racks or on a cookie tray to make it a bit easier to get the smores in and out of the oven.

Brown the marshmallows

The broiler heat will quickly brown the marshmallows. Once the marshmallows are brown, the chocolate will also be melted. This step usually takes less than two minutes, so watch the marshmallows closely.

* In the oven it's possible to make several at a time.

Put the halves of the smore together

Remove the graham crackers from the oven with the chocolate melted or at least warmed and the marshmallows browned and hot. Place the two halves together and you have a perfect oven roasted smore.

      Yammi! I prefer Smore's roasted in the camp fire, but in winter or on a rainy day this the optimal solution!

      I love Smore's and I don't even count how much calories they give you. Smore's make me feel happy, that's all what counts!

      Paul, I've never tried to make smores in the oven bfore. I've made my weight in them though by the campfire. I'm going to have to try this recipe with my grandchildren.

      I'm making them in our brick oven for my nephews, next week. I roll out pizza dough, then use the same things you do. Have you seen the new extra large marshmallows? They made me laugh when I saw them... and then they made me buy them! You have good hubs... I will follow you now.

      In my house we do them a little differently. First of all we use Lindt chocolate. Either the Sea salt kind or the chili infused kind both are great for this. They are dark chocolate and have a higher cocoa content then Hershey's. Yumm

      So, place the graham crackers directly on a microwavable plate (on the plate you will be eating them from). Now put the chocolate on the Grahams as you have pictured above. Lay the marshmallows flat side down right on top of the chocolate. Put the lid on and microwave them for about 10 seconds or so. The marshmallows will inflate while the chocolate melts.

      After they are done the marshmallows will deflate. The chocolate and marshmallows will be melted together where they meet.

      doing it this way makes a delicious, quick, fun, gooey hot melty mess of a snack! The results are picture worthy for sure.

      By the way the little girl is very cure!
