How to Make Tuna Sandwiches for Two

  • 2 Cans Tuna in Water

Making tuna sandwiches for two people only takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. There are many variations of this recipe but here is mine.

Start with 2 small cans of tuna in water (not oil), I like to buy dolphin safe but whatever you buy is fine. Rinse both of the can tops. Then open both cans with a can opener and leave the lid in the tuna after it is cut free. Hold lid against the tuna inside the can and turn the can upside down to drain the water or both cans. After the tuna fish is drained, use a fork to pop the lids back off so you will not cut yourself on the sharp lid. Use the same fork to fork the tuna into a medium sized mixing bowl. Then rinse the cans and recycle them.

Dice half of a small onion and add to the mixing bowl.

Add 1-2 forkfuls of sweet relish from a jar or 2-3 squirts from a squeeze bottle to the mixing bowl.

Now add mayonnaise one forkful at a time and mix. Stop adding mayonnaise when it looks like the consistency you like. I do not like a lot of mayonnaise so I add about 1.5-2 forkfuls but if you love mayonnaise use more. If you have added too much mayonnaise just open another can of tuna and add it along with a touch more sweet relish.

Lightly toast 4 pieces of bread then fork the tuna on to the toasted bread and you are all done. You may have enough for a 3rd tuna fish sandwich left in the bowl depending on how much you put on each sandwich. You could always save this for later or make a 3rd if you are extra hungry.
