I am a self-proclaimed Taco Bell Junkie; and when it comes to anything Taco Bell, I turn my kitchen into the Iron chef “Kitchen Stadium” and go to work perfecting my recipe.

Today I am going to teach you how to easily make your own Cool Ranch Doritos Taco.

Cook Time

Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 10 min
Ready in: 20 min
Yields: 1 Can of Chicken Makes Around 4 Tacos

  • 1 Can Chicken
  • 1 Pack Taco Shells
  • 1 Pack 7 Layer Dip, Premade
  • 1 Jar Ranch Mix
  • 1 Pack Taco Seasoning
  • 1 Can PAM Cooking Spray

Picking Out Shells

  1. The most important part of the Taco Bell Cool Ranch Doritos Taco is the shell (the rest of the taco is the exact same thing as a regular taco at Taco Bell) so let’s start with the most important part: First, you want to get taco shells. I personally love the Stand And Stuff ones simply because they don’t break. They are slightly wider than Taco Bells shells, but I prefer wider over breakage.

PAM Cooking Spray

Next, get PAM cooking spray. PAM brand cooking spray is not only for coating pans but also works wonders for BAKING foods to make them taste just like they were deep fried (no joke!). If you can get the 100% Canola Oil PAM.

Ranch Seasoning Dip Mix

The next ingredient you will need to create your Cool Ranch Doritos Taco Shell is Ranch Mix. I HIGHLY SUGGEST purchasing TONES brand Buttermilk Ranch Mix. Avoid buying those little packets that are made for making party dips; they have too many chunks of seasoning.

Now all you need to do is spray the outside of your taco shell with PAM then sprinkle / coat it with the TONES Buttermilk Ranch mix. You can then cook your shells in the toaster oven OR cook them first then spray them and coat them. I prefer to cook mine then spray and coat them.

Filling the Cool Ranch Doritos Taco

As far as ingredients goes; the simplest thing ever is to take a CAN of chicken and throw it in a pan with some taco seasoning.

After you cook the chicken up then apply the 7 layer dip that you can get at any grocery store. I always end up with the LUISA'S brand because that's what every store here seems to carry (It is often sold in HOT and MILD. I prefer MILD for this recipe). I personally think that the combination of the 7 layer dip is better than just the standard lettuce and cheese that Taco Bell puts on it, but do as you please.

Other Options

Of course if you prefer to use ground beef or other fillers: go for it! I just love this recipe because it is so beyond simple!
