Updated on August 31, 2012

The Classic Martini

The Martini is the classic before dinner Cocktail and has now become one of the most well-known mixed alcoholic drinks.

Gathering the Ingredients

To mix the perfect Classic Martini all you need is:

  • Gin
  • Dry Vermouth
  • A glass of Ice
  • Green Olives or a twist of Lemon for garnish

Mixing the Cocktail

Take an empty, standard glass tumbler and pour in 3oz. of Gin, add 1oz. of dry Vermouth and fill the glass to the brim with Ice. Stir for a short while until the glass is cold. Strain the Cocktail into a chilled cocktail glass, finish off with a green olive or a lemon twist.

Tips and Advice

  • To chill your Cocktail glasses, try adding water and Ice to the glass and leaving to chill or leaving them in your freezer for a short while.
  • Traditionally, Martini's are served without Ice with a green olive or "twist of lemon". A twist of lemon is basically just a strip of the peel dropped into the cocktail, occasionally squeezed or twisted to add essential oils to the surface of the drink.

I have never had a martini but I know it has become rather popular in my area. I think I will have to try one of these soon. Thanks for the recipe!
