Johnnie/Johnny Walker Tasting In Chicago Miami - Scotch Whiskey
Johnnie Walker Tasting Event Review
I have the opportunity to check out the Johnnie Walker tasting events in Chicago and Miami Having been a Johnnie Walker fan since I started drinking, this was too good to pass up! Even if you are not a scotch drinker the experience is itself is worth it.
These tastings are not offered in every city and they happen rarely so they get filled pretty quickly. In order to attend the event just RSVP on their website. However, RSVP'ing does not guarantee you entry, so I would arrive 60-30 minutes before the event begins. I arrived there 30 minutes before and the line was long! Also, if you did not make a reservation (as one of my friends didn't) just tell one of the hostesses dressed in sexy black dresses that you did and they let you in.
Once inside you will be given a token for one free drink and no you can't get Blue Label or Green Label for that matter. You have a choice between Black Label and Red Label. There is a buffet table of appetizers that you can help yourself to, mostly cheese and crackers. After about 15-20 minutes of drinking and socializing then you are ushered into the tasting room.
As you are entering the tasting room you can pose for a picture in front of a Johnnie Walker sign. Make sure you strike your best pose because these pictures will end up on the Johnnie Walker Facebook fan page! You will be seated in front of a platter with 5 shot glasses with all the Johnnie Walker labels with some strawberries, pepper, and ice cubes. If you're like me you might be tempted to knock back all the shots but resist that urge. They are not full shots by the way.
The Master of Whiskey, Mr. Stephen Wilson will begin a short introductory film on the history of Johnnie Walker. Then he will go through each of the labels and describe the subtle differences of each one and have you taste them. He will ask for your feedback after, there have been many funny answers to "what does it taste like?", especially from the non scotch drinkers!
I hope you are able to check out this event. I think it's a great way the company has come up with to promote their brand and I am more of a Johnnie Walker fan than ever!
