Some Delicious uses of Lemons

If your like me, nothing is so satisfying as a tall cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day. Whether you have been outside working in your yard or just having a family cookout, lemonade sure beats any soft drink on the market and most likely is more healthy for our bodies.

Lemons are very healthy and have many helpful properties. They boost the immune system having vitamin C. They also contain bioflavonoids, magnesium, calcium, pectins and many other substances which help to nourish our health. Although lemons are naturally tart and sour and if eaten raw, will certainly make your frown but with a little bit of effort and some sugar all the sourness is transformed bringing a smile on many of our faces.

Lemons not only give us a great tasting beverage but who doesn't love good lemon pie. My mother would make lemon me-reign pies sometimes for Sunday dinners. They were lip smacking good and always required a plate licking!!! The store bought varieties just can't measure up. The Shakers in Kentucky also gave us a great recipe for lemon pie. Several years ago we had gone to the IBMA (bluegrass) Awards held at that time in Louisville, we stopped in the Shaker Town so we could sample the cuisine of the Shakers and especially to get a piece of their famous lemon pie.

Being an American and a Southern boy, by the grace of God, like Si Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame, I also love my ice tea. For it to be really good, a couple of slices of fresh lemon sure make it better I can't say I drink mine in a Tupperware cup, I hate Tupperware cups, just give me a tall regular glass cup or maybe even a Mason jar and I am Happy Happy Happy!

How many of you ever were entrepreneurs and had a lemonade stand when you were kids? I think we had one in the cotton mill village where I grew up but if I remember correctly, we always drank up our profits!

Lemonade is still popular in these here parts. At almost any public function, one will find a fie gallon cooler of lemonade. My wife's brother has earned quite a reputation for making lemonade and limeade. He sells produce a the Asheville Farmers Market and always can get quality lemons and limes. Always a favorite at Vacation Bible School, church homecomings and those huge family get togethers.

Have you or your children ever had a lemonade stand?

Nothing like a cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day, neath the shade of an oak tree. I only like it made from fresh squeezed lemons. There's something special about lemonade to me, like home made ice cream, or watermelon.

Thanks Bob, great to have your comments. I haven't tried lemon on my salad but sometimes a little lemon juice on fish gives a better taste.

Hello Tom, thanks for stopping by and commenting. Your combination is a winner in my book.

Goes well on main dishes as well. I like it on salads instead of vinegar and on fish. Goes so well with Mexican food like Guacomale. I love the strong fresh taste of lemons and always have some in the house..Bob
