Lotus Root Pancake Recipe - Chinese Dim Sum Dish
Lotus root is interesting vegetable from Asia. It's crunchy, starchy and sweet. It's loaded with fiber, low in fat and has medicinal properties. It's usually used as vegetables in many dishes such as stir-fry, soup, pickle, salad, etc. You could be familiar with this root vegetable but have you ever try it as snack such as lotus root pancake or patty ?. This is another way to enjoy lotus root.
Lotus root pancake is traditional snack or street food from China. It's made of chopped lotus root, ground pork, spring onions and lightly seasoned with soy sauce. It is shaped like small pancake and then pan fried to golden brown. It's usually serve with soy sauce or sometime hot chili oil/sauce. This snack is simple but very tasty. It's savory, crunchy and loaded with flavors.
Lotus root pancake is also served in dim sum restaurants especially in Southern China region. Here is how to make lotus root pancake at home. It is great for appetizer or starter.
What You Need
1/2 lbs lotus root
4 oz ground pork
1 tbsp chopped spring onions
2 tsp light soy sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp canola oil
How to Fix
- Peel the lotus root. Then wash and chop it coarsely.
- In mixing bowl, combine chopped lotus root, ground pork, spring onions, sugar, salt and soy sauce. Mix thoroughly. Divide the lotus root mixture into 8 equal portions. Shape the dough into 2 1/2 inches in diameter patties.
- Heat one tablespoon of canola oil over medium-heat. Pan fry the patties until both sides are golden brown. It will takes about 2 or 3 minutes each side.
- Transfer to serving plate. Enjoy it warm.
