Margaritaville G1000 Grill Review

The  Margaritaville G1000 is a hitch mounted portable gas grill.  This means that it rides on a solid steel frame that fits solidly into any standard 2in trailer hitch.  The steel frame has a swing-out arm that when in use, puts the grill perpendicular to the tailgate providing easy access to your other equipment.  It has an enormous grilling surface (352 square inches to be exact) but more importantly it has 20,000 BTU to back it up.  It has a ton of ingenious design features such as fold-out side tables to give you space for all of the accoutrements, a little hidden spice rack for easy access to your secret ingredients, and plenty of utensil hooks so that everything is within reach.  The grill comes standard with a 1lb propane tank attachment but a conversion hose can be purchase separately that allows you to hook a full 20lb propane cylinder up to the grill.

Why This is the Best Tailgating Grill

We feel that this is the best tailgating grill because it hits the sweet spot between size, portability and power.  Many portable propane grills for tailgating are small and unstable making it a pain to grill on.  Others are big and have power but are cumbersome.  Using a ride behind grill like the Margaritaville G1000 allows you to have space for all of your equipment in your car or SUV and gives you the power to cook 20 burgers, bratwursts or dogs (or any combination) with ease.  In fact, if you tailgate in a cold weather climate, this is the only portable grill that can stand up to the cold conditions.

What Could Be Better

We love this grill and think that if you have a trailer hitch to mount this on, this should be your grill.  But it does come with two minor flaws.  The first problem we have with the grill is that this beast of a grill is only equipped with a 1 lb tank.  Really?  You'll be through that thing in less than an hour.  The good news is for about 20 bucks you can get a propane hose attachment that will allow you to use a 20lb tank and really scorch some meat!

The other thing that we thought could be better was the locks that come with the tailgating grill.  When you make a purchase like this, you want to know that your investment is safe and that some drunk bozo isn't going to rip it off in a drunken stupor.  Again, you can pick up a more robust lock for about 15 bucks but it's your call.

We hope that you like our Margaritaville grill review.  If you've had experience with the grill and like to cast your vote we encourage you to leave a comment below.  Also, if you have a question we will try our best to get you the answers you're looking for.

Happy Tailgating!
