Marina Del Rey's New 'IT' Restaurant Is Vu!

Updated on June 17, 2011

What's not to love about Vu? Nothing. Vu should easily become the must eat destination in Marina Del Rey, replacing some of the older relics around. Here's my experience.

The server, Jacob, started out encouraging us to try some small plates and then proceeded to go over his favorites. He then took our drink order and recommended an amazing Pinot Noir called Muira. I'm not a big fan of wine but this was delicious. Since his wine recommendation was spot on we decided to try his favorite small plates.

Reconstructed Caprese Salad - The basil and balsamic are injected into the cherry tomato and then wrapped in the cheese. You pop it into your mouth and the flavors explode in your mouth. Effen amazing.

Pork Belly - Served on grits and topped off with root beer jello. Crazy right? So delicious, it's easily tied with the beef tartar for my favorite.

Lamb Lollipops - Actually served on lollipop sticks, really good.

Calamari - The best calamari in Los Angeles by far! It's steaks, not rings and comes with a pink lemonade mayo as apposed to marinara. My second favorite.

Chicken Fried Watermelon - I hate watermelon but loved this.

Beef Tartar - Tied for favorite! Funyuns, blueberries and quail egg. Soooo delicious!

Braised Chicken Leg With Suveed Egg - This is worth it just for the potatoes alone.

And last

Thai Mussles - Served in spoons, so no shells, I could easily see this being one of their big sellers.

For dessert our server had us try the ice cream which is made with liquid nitrogyne. You get maple, cherry and mint. The mint is like being transported to some wintery destination it is that powerful and flavorful. Jacob told us it's because they use real mint rather than an extract.

The portions aren't huge and they shouldn't be. If you want to pig out I recommend C&O Trattoria or Tony P's. This is the perfect place for those that want to try new things and eat amazing food. Kyle Schutte gives a fabulous sample of what micro gastronomy is all about.

The Vu (view) is spectacular and they have a whole outdoor dining section so on nice days get there early. Jacob was amazing and knowledgeable and the food is out of this world.

Like I said, nothing negative to say and I imagine I will be eating there a lot.
