Mocktail Drinks: Fun Non-Alcoholic (Virgin) Cocktails

Updated on August 03, 2012

Why Make Mocktails?

If you don't know what a mocktail is, it is a drink that is meant to taste like a cocktail yet not have any alcohol in it. If you plan to host a party it is always a good idea to have a few mocktail options available for those who plan to drive. As a party host it is your responsibility to make sure your guest get home safely so offering mocktails is a great way to prevent drunk driving. It is also a good idea to have a few mocktail recipe's on hand if you have guests who prefer not to drink. By offering them a mocktail they can feel more comfortable at your party while others enjoy a drink. Haven't you ever been to a party where you decided not to drink, but everyone you talk to offers you one? If you are holding a mocktail, people will be less likely to offer you a drink which will alleviate that awkwardness of saying no to a drink. Even if you are not planning a party, many of these drinks are really good to drink anyways.

Virgin Pina Colada

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 1/4 cups pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavycream
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar

This is a great drink to have pool side. It isn't the healthiest drink since its loaded with fat and sugar, but that is why it taste so good. To make this drink take a glass and fill it with ice. If you are feeling creative you can carve out a pineapple and serve the drink inside the pineapple. Now add the heavy cream and sugar. I would then add the pineapple juice and milk. Lastly give the drink a good stir and garnish with a bit of fruit. Its also fun to add a straw and umbrella to add to the tropical feel. If you prefer you can also blend the drink with ice to make it more like a smoothie.

Fake Champagne

Ingredients

  • 2 bottles Ginger Ale
  • 1 part Pineapple Juice
  • 1 part White Grape Juice

This is a great drink to serve when you want to celebrate, but not everyone can have a drink. It's perfect for baby showers since the expecting mother should try to avoid alcohol. Simply combine the ingredients shown above in the correct ratio and you should have a fantastic non-alcoholic champagne for your guests. To make the drink a bit more fancy drop a raspberry in each glass.

Sangria

Sangria

  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • ½ fresh lemon, sliced
  • ½ fresh orange, sliced
  • 1 small apple or peach, cut into wedges
  • 4 cups club soda or seltzer water
  • 4 cups grape juice

If you are more of a fan of wine than cocktails than this is a perfect fit for you. For this drink you will need a large pitcher. To make this non-alcoholic sangria simply combine all of the ingredients in the pitcher and stir. When you serve place a few ice cubes in a large wine glass and pour the mixture over the ice. I like to add a few bits of fruit to my drink as well, I think it taste better and looks nicer.

Ingredieants

  • 8 mint leaves
  • 3 oz lime juice
  • 1 ½ oz sugar syrup
  • 2 oz club soda

If you love a Mojito, but need to drive home at the end of the night this is a great alternative. Take a tall glass and place your mint leaves in the bottom of the glass along with your lime juice. Now take a cocktail pastel and mash the leaves and lime juice; this helps release the flavors. Now add a few cubes of ice and add your sugar syrup and club soda. Lastly, give the drink a gentle stir and enjoy. If you don't have sugar syrup you can always add a bit of granulated sugar, but you may want to give it time to dissolve in the club soda.

Classic Shirley Temple

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lemon-lime soda
  • 2 tbsp grenadine
  • 1 tbsp orange juice

To make a Shirley Temple fill a tall glass with ice and add the grenadine and orange juice. Finally add the lemon-lime soda. If it doesn't fill the glass just add a bit more, there is no need to be exact. Once you have combined all of your ingredients you will want to give it a gentle stir. This is a very sweet drink that might be too sweet for most adults. However, kids love the stuff and it makes them feel like they are having a cocktail with Mom and Dad. Most restaurants will be more than happy to whip up a batch of Shirley Temple's for the kids.

Tornado Twist Mocktail

Tornado Twist

Ingredients

  • 3 parts Cranberry Juice
  • 1 part Lemon-Lime Soda

This is a great drink for those who normally enjoy drinking a cranberry and vodka. Simply fill a tall glass with ice and fill it 3/4 full with cranberry juice. Then top off the glass with a lemon-lime soda like Sprite, 7 Up or Sierra Mist. This is a very refreshing drink that still tastes like a cocktail. This is also another great drink for kids who might not like cranberry juice. It makes the cranberry juice less tart and more sweet. To make the drink look more fancy take a wedge of lime and place it on the side of the glass. Before you drink the mocktail you can always squeeze the lime into your drink as well.

Wow, I'm really getting into making mocktails and I find your hub really awesome because I want to try every single one of these recipes! I am so bookmarking this page. Great idea to have mocktail options at parties - you never know when someone just can't drink alcohol. I recently went to a party where there was nothing for my b/f and I to drink since there were only alcoholic options which we couldn't drink because we've been taking malaria pills (which have a horrible effect on the liver) so we actually went out and bought juice! From now on, I'm always going to offer cocktails and mocktails whenever I host a party and will reference your hub. Thanks. I'm sharing this!

These are terrific! I take medications that I can't drink with, so I sometimes miss the taste of a cocktail! Will definitely try these!
