Ways to Detox Your Body
What is detoxing?
Detoxing pretty much means to clean out the blood. Detoxing helps remove impurities from the blood in the liver and drive out toxins from the body. Toxins are also eliminated through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, and skin.
Before you begin the process
If you are a smoker, drinker, eat a lot of sugar, drink coffee, etc., you need to eliminate these from your diet. I know it's not easy to quit these things cold turkey. Try to start slowly cutting these things out of your diet months before you plan on detoxing. If you are still continuing to drink, smoke, etc., while you're detoxing, then you're pretty much defeating the entire purpose.
After the process
- Once you have cleansed your body, don't go right back to drinking, smoking, and eating unhealthy. Start eating plenty of fiber, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Excellent detoxing foods include beets, radishes, artichokes, cabbage, broccoli, spirulina, chlorella, and seaweed.
- Take Vitamin C. It is a liver compound that assists in driving out toxins.
- Drink A LOT of water.
- Go into a sauna or a steam room so that you can eliminate waste from your body by sweating.
- And most importantly, EXERCISE.
If you can't fast for a week (or even a few days), this is the perfect way for you to detox. Try drinking a green smoothie everyday in replacement of a meal.
What you'll need:
- 1 cup kale
- 1 apple (chopped)
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup parsley leaves
Combine ingredients listed above with 2 1/4 cups of water in a blender. Blend until smooth.
Do a sugar detox
I have personally done this detox (I did it for seven days). I am not going to lie, it is one of the most difficult detoxes that I have done. However, it is also one of the most rewarding detoxes I have done. It made me realize how much sugar I actually consume daily (it is atrocious). If you are unable to complete eliminate sugar from your diet, at least try cutting down on it. I promise, it will make such a difference. The negative impacts of sugar can include fatigue, diabetes, and excess amounts of fat.
When you wake up in the morning, drink a large glass of water with lemon juice and a few dashes of cayenne pepper in it. The lemon juice will help with digestion and eliminate waste from your body. Cayenne pepper will give your metabolism an extra boost.
There are so many detoxifying smoothies out there to fit your personal taste. Most of these smoothies contain extremely high amounts of fruits and vegetables. This is providing your body with so many nutrients that it needs, while also flushing out so many toxins and eliminating waste. I have tried many different detox smoothies. My personal favorite is Dr. Oz's 3-Day Detox Cleanse.
Whether you believe in detoxing or not, it is undeniable that detoxing is a great way to cleanse out your body. For many people, it is that little kick they need to get their healthy lifestyle started. Regardless if you want a detox that involves no food, or if it's too hard for you to not eat for three days, I promise that there is a way for you to detox!
