5 stars from 1 rating of Mushroom Guinness Pea Soup

Green Pea Soup

Pea soup is probably my favorite meal ever. Its funny, because I went my entire life not knowing something I love so much existed. A few years ago, my father-in-law was making it and I thought it smelled pretty good. He explained that pea soup is one of those things you either love or hate, and that the night wouldn't end without me trying it. I fell in love instantly, and pea soup and I have been inseparable ever since.

It wasn't until just this Winter that I discovered how great it tastes with one of my favorite beers in it.. What a dangerously amazing discovery that was.

Pea Soup

Cook Time

Prep time: 30 min
Cook time: 6 hours
Ready in: 6 hours 30 min
Yields: Huge crock pot, serves multiples with leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 purple/red onion
  • a few stalks of celery
  • 1 can Guinness, (minus a couple sips)
  • 4 Guiness cans water
  • 2 bags split peas
  • a lot chopped mushrooms
  • pinch sweet basil
  • pinch salt and pepper

Recipes with Guinness

  1. First I started by putting the split peas in my large crock pot on high.
  2. Then I poured Guinness over the peas, and added my four cans of water.
  3. Next I cut the onions and celery and added those.
  4. Then I added salt, pepper and basil.
  5. Next I added the chopped mushrooms.
  6. Then I let it go, I stirred it every once in a while and once the peas really started getting soft, I lowered the heat and let it simmer for a while.
