While looking for a nice dinner for two type recipe, I came across this chicken dish. It looked and sounded like it would be easy and quick to make. Looking over the things that make up this chicken dish, you might look at how many ingredients are in the recipe and feel overwhelmed. Once you get to take a closer look, at the ingredients, more than likely, you will have everything that the recipe requires in your pantry.

New Orleans is known for it's spicy food as well as it's known for it's jazz music. Truly unique flavors that are found in New Orleans make the city a great place to visit to eat. New Orleans' food is known for it's robust flavors and seasonings. I don't like very spicy food but, this is not spicy hot, it's just lots of spices and different flavors.

This recipe takes some of the flavor combinations that you would find in New Orleans and lets you re-create the flavors in the comfort of your own home. That's what makes me think of a romantic dinner for two when I looked at this recipe.

With Valentine's Day coming once a year, this would be a great recipe to fix for that special someone. This would be a great meal to fix because you can let the chicken marinate until you are ready to fix the chicken.

Very Tasty

The secret to this tasty chicken is to let it marinate for a couple of hours before you cook it. You just simply can't rush a good marinade. You have to let the meat take it's time and just let it sit and soaked in the flavors.

Sometimes in a particular recipe, there will be an ingredient that you wonder about. For this particular recipe, I think it would be the brown sugar. This is the mystery ingredient for this hub. The brown sugar gives you the sweetness that makes this recipe taste so good. Between the lemon juice, worcestershire sauce and brown sugar, this is some very flavor filled chicken. The longer that the chicken can be marinated the more infused the chicken is with the flavor filled mixture.

I absolutely love all of my kitchen gadgets. If there is a gadget that I think I would use but, don't have, I would just go buy whatever it is and I will use it. I am a sucker sometimes for what looks like might be a good deal, thinking I will use it. Most of the time I do use what I order but, sometimes I mess up and end up not using whatever I order.

Marinating Chicken

This recipe does not recommend marinating the chicken before cooking it. It just says to combine the ingredients, dredge the chicken through the flour and dip it in the sauce.

I can not help but think that the chicken would taste better if you could let it marinate before you cooked it. I would suggest mixing the nine ingredients as suggested by the recipe. Then I would put the chicken in a bowl, pour the marinade over the chicken and let it sit for four hours minimum or overnight (for best results), in the refrigerator. This should give the flavors time to blend and soak into the chicken.

A secret that I have picked up when marinating chicken that I have learned, truly by trial and error, is to make tiny cuts in the chicken and then let it sit in the marinade. Then, I have found that chicken cooks better if you can let it sit out and come back to room temperature before you cook it. The chicken tends to be tough if you cook it straight out of the refrigerator. Also, cooking the chicken low and slow, this will also aid in the meat not being so tough. Be sure when you cook the chicken to cook it all the way through.

Flavor Filled Chicken

Who would have thought to use the following together?

1. lemon juice

2. worcestershire sauce

3. vinegar

4. butter

5. brown sugar

6. ketchup

7. mustard

8. salt

9. flour

10. chicken breasts

The combination of these flavors makes for a one of a kind recipe. The tartness of the lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, mustard and vinegar is calmed down by the sweetness of the brown sugar. It would be best if you have a way to just absolutely infuse the chicken with the marinade. This will allow you to get the full flavors out of this recipe.

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 4 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 4 tablespoons vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup water
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons ketchup

  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 8 medium sized chicken breasts
  • flour self rising or plain, enough to coat the chicken in

  1. Preheat the oven to 400. Combine the first, nine ingredients in a shallow dish mixing well. Then roll the chicken in flour to coat.
  2. Then, dip the chicken in the sauce. Place the chicken in a lightly greased pan and cover.
  3. Bake the chicken for fifteen minutes at 400 degrees. Then reduce the heat of the oven and cook at 300 degrees for 1 hour 15 minutes.
  4. This particular recipe makes 6-8 adult serving sizes.
  5. Almost a given, most guests will get two pieces of chicken.
