One Million Pop-Tarts Contest - What is it?
Win 1,000,000 Pop-Tarts
This contest by Pop-Tarts is a way to promote a contest and give pop tarts not only to contest winners but to people the contest winners want to help. This contest stands out from others because when you enter the contest, you choose the amount of Pop-Tarts you would like to win and what you would do with them.
Winners are not chosen by Kellogg's but by voters who judge the entry for the 1,000 and 100,000 Pop-Tarts prize and Kellogg's Pop-Tarts company picks the five finalists for the 1,000,000 Pop-Tart Grand prize and the public gets to vote on the final winner who gets a NYC trip and other great prizes. Other prizes are available to get weekly and monthly like T-shirts and flip cameras in the contest so there are multiple chances to win weekly.
This contest is through Facebook and you can enter through 12/4/2010. You have to add the Facebook Kellog's page to link to your account like other Facebook fan pages.

Building Brand Equity With Facebook
Companies are increasingly using Facebook and social media to promote their business and build credibility behind a brand. Do these contests sell more products? Maybe.. but the real benefit of business is to engage customers and interact with them in alternative ways than they have in the past. These Facebook contests like the Million Pop-Tart contest are engaging people around a brand and building a brand relationship.
Do you like brands on your Facebook page? Do you add company websites to your Facebook profile? Many users add companies they are fans of and this advertising and brand awareness is at little to no cost. All a company has to do is host a Facebook page and maintain it contents. The manpower behind Facebook promotions has much smaller expenses than advertising a commercial on TV.
Facebook has become the prime social media outlet for corporate and small business promotions and to maintain a community around their business and brand. Do you have a business without a Facebook page? Consumers often need incentives to interact with the fan page of a business. Offering exclusive coupons and contests for fans will encourage them to return to your Facebook Fan Page and build upon your brand relationship with them.
Kellogg's Pop-Tarts already has over two million fans on Facebook. A commercial for the one million Pop Tart Pay it Forward contest ran during the MTV VMAs this year and it drives traffic to the site and to Facebook as part of the promotion.
