Quick and Best Ways to Cook Prawns - Recipes for Pan Fried, Grilled and Boiled Prawns
Prawns are awesome in many recipes. There are no bones or fins in prawns that will get stuck in your throat. In any prawn recipes, fresh prawns are still the best choice. Prawns come in many different variety. They include banana prawns, grey prawns, tiger prawns and king prawns. King prawns are the largest prawns that are the best to eat.
Prawns tend to lose much of their flavour after they have been frozen, thawed and then cooked. Prawns do taste a lot better when cooked unshelled. However, most people would prefer to have prawns on their plates shelled and de-veined. It could be a challenge trying to remove the shells with a fork and knife if you have not done it before, and not many people want to get their fingers dirty at a fine dining restaurant either.
Prawns are fast to cook. Overcooked prawns lose some of their flavours and they do get a bit tough to chew. The following prawn recipes are quick and easy to prepare, but they are really delicious to eat!
Pan Fried Garlic Prawns
You will need these ingredients : one kilogram of large raw prawns, four garlic cloves, 125 grams butter, four tablespoons olive oil, six tablespoons brandy, a pinch salt and some pepper.
Peel and slice the garlic. Wash the prawns, remove the shells and de-vein the prawns. Pat dry with paper towels. Melt the butter and olive oil in a frying pan. Add in garlic and stir until garlic turns light brown. Add in prawns and fry over high heat. Stir for about 5 minutes or until prawns are cooked. Sprinkle with brandy, salt and pepper and turn off heat.
Serve with lemon wedges or chilly pickles and bread.
Oven Grilled Prawns
You will need one kilogram of banana raw prawns, one teaspoon of garlic granules, two tablespoons of olive oil, some salt and pepper.
Wash the prawns and spread them out on a baking tray. Sprinkle with olive oil, salt and pepper.
Put the prawns in the grill and cook for 10 minutes. Turn the prawns over and cook for another 10 minutes or until thoroughly cooked.
Serve as an appetiser or side dish.
Spicy Sour Prawn Soup
Wash half a kilogram of large prawns, coriander leaves, ground ginger, one stalk lemon grass crushed and cut, four cups chicken stock, some fresh mushrooms sliced, one capsicum sliced, a squeeze of lemon juice, two tablespoons fish sauce, two chillies, some salt and pepper.
Put chicken stock, ground ginger, lemon grass, fish sauce and chillies in a pot and boil for 15 minutes. Add in mushrooms, capsicum and prawns. Cook for 5 minutes. Add in coriander leaves, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Turn off heat and serve hot with rice.
Use one kilogram of king prawns, clean and de-vein them. You will need two tablespoons of oil, one tablespoon of sliced ginger, one tablespoon of crushed garlic, one large onion, a few stalks of coriander leaves, three tablespoons of curry powder, one cup of coconut milk, one cup of fish stock and one teaspoon salt.
Heat oil in a pot and fry the ginger, garlic and onion until fragrant. Add in curry powder, coconut milk, fish stock and salt. Cook until boiling then lower heat to let the gravy simmer for 5 minutes. Add in prawns and cook for another 5 minutes. Serve with coriander leaves and steamed rice.
