Kid-Friendly Meal: Pizza Dippers
Pizza made with corn tortillas!
A quick, easy, and delicious snack!
Pizza dippers are a really easy, quick, cheap and delicious snack. Start with placing some corn tortillas (or flour, if you like) on a baking sheet and sprinkle each one with some shredded cheese. Bake in the oven at 350* until you can see the cheese begin to bubble, about 5 minutes. Take out of the oven and fold each tortilla in half, and voila! You have a dipper! Turn the dippers into pizza dippers by adding a small bowl of pizza sauce on the side.
Frugal snack for big appetites
These pizza dippers are a really frugal snack, or a meal. The bag of tortillas I bought was about $2, so each tortilla was just about ten cents. Pizza sauce can be cheap or expensive, depending on what brand you buy, or you can cook up some tomatoes and make your own! The cheese is the most expensive aspect of this dish - buying a big chunk of cheese will save you money in the long run.
As delicious as they are, however, pizza dippers are decidedly not a health food. Corn tortillas don't really have much nutritional value, and the cheese is, well, cheese! Something to be used sparingly, according to some people (thanks a lot, USDA!). The pizza sauce is by far the healthiest part of this snack, and mostly if you make your own and steer clear of the loads of sodium in most pre-made sauces.
Despite the lack of health value, it's still a fun and delicious occasional snack, and very kid-friendly! Your little ones may enjoy making this snack - with your supervision, of course - since they can pretty much do all of the steps themselves. Bon appetit!
