Pork Chops And Chutney

Updated on January 6, 2010

Amazing Pork Chops

I want to share one of my personal favorite with you. This recipe was handed down to me, and is one of the best ways to prepare and serve pork chops. This recipe will have your family and friends drooling for me, believe me, this is one dish you want to over do it on. I usually try to make 2-3 times the amount i need to serve any number of guests. There is rarely left overs, and when there are, we never have them in the fridge for more that 6-8 hours. This dish is a comfort food, and don't be surprised if everyone is so happy about the meal that they want to take a nap when they are finished. Perfect for the kids, the husband, and the entire family.

Delicious and Simple!

Collect The Following

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup diced onion (white or yellow)
  • 1 cup diced celery (diced or sliced small)
  • 1.5 large apple, peeled, cored, diced
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 4 tablespoons maple syrup, honey, or brown sugar (brown sugar works best)
  • 1/2 cup apple brandy, apple Schnapps, or apple juice (apple juice works best)
  • 6-10 boneless or bone in pork chops, about 3/4 to 1 inch thick
  • olive oil (about 2 tablespoons)
  • salt and pepper
  • For The Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup or honey or brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 4 tablespoons cider vinegar or balsamic vinegar(cider vinegar is best)
  • 3.5 tablespoons spicy or Dijon mustard
  • dash salt
  • dash pepper

Prepare The Chops And Sauce

In a large skillet (deep) or two large skillets if needed, over medium-low heat, and with a lid, melt butter. Add the following: diced apple, onion, celery, and dried cranberries. Uncover after about 7 minutes and saute until tender. Then slowly add the chicken broth, 4 tablespoons of maple syrup or brown sugar, apple brandy or juice, and a light sprinkling of salt and pepper. Simmer, stirring frequently, until liquid has evaporated and fruits and vegetables have caramelized. Set aside. (you can also be preparing your Pork Chops at this time if you choose, remember to keep the chutney on low heat and stir often (keeping covered) if you plan on starting the pork chops after the chutney is prepared)

Brush chops with a little olive oil. Heat a lightly oiled stove top skillet pan or broiler rack. Combine the glaze ingredients. Brush over the pork chops.

Pan grill over medium-high heat or broil for about 4 to 6 minutes on each side or until cooked through, turning and brushing frequently with the glaze.

Serve pork chops with the apple-cranberry chutney over top.

This dish will serve 4-6 people, and the ingredients can all be cut in half to serve four people if needed.

The best side dishes to serve with this particular preparation is garlic mashed potatoes, and or any kind of steamed vegitable or rice! Enjoy!
