Many people are familiar with a term, embutido, but did you know what it really is? Well, read this to have an idea.
An embutido is actually a sausage which has many delicious ingredients in it. Its ingredients include meat, which is usually that of a pig, boiled eggs which are sometimes sliced, raisins, hotdogs and other selected vegetables.
Embutido has many names in other countries. It is called enchido in European Portuguese, embotits in Catalan, and embutido in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese people. But no matter what is the term used, it is still a sausage which is favoured by many. Here is an example recipe on how to prepare this type of dish:
You will need:
2 pounds pork meat (ground)
2 pieces raw eggs
3 pieces boiled eggs (sliced)
6 pieces hotdogs (cut into diagonal slices)
½ cup sweet pickle relish
½ cup tomato sauce
1 cup carrots (chopped)
2 cup bell peppers (chopped combination of red and green)
1 cup onion (chopped)
1 ½ cup raisins
2 cups bread crumbs
2 cups cheese (grated)
pepper
salt
Here’s how to cook:
Break and beat the raw eggs into a large bowl.
Add the bread crumbs and pork meat into the bowl. Make sure to mix it well.
Add the remaining ingredients (except boiled eggs and hotdogs) and mix again.
Get an aluminium foil and place the mixture into its middle part then flatten.
Arrange the hotdogs and boiled eggs according to where you want it to be placed (usually it is placed at the middle of the meat mixture).
Roll and fold the meat mixture with the aluminium foil.
Steam for about an hour.
After that, refrigerate, slice and it’s now ready to be served!
