Pretty Mix With Chex Cereal
A chex mix that is fun to create with a small set of hands.
Some parents reward their children with fast food. Some take their kids somewhere special. Moms like me make some goodies! I am all about being healthy and staying away from fats and sugars as much as possible. But, it can be hard keeping children away from sugar.
One day I got a craving for Sweet and Salty. So I grabbed my daughter's chore and behavior chart and seen she had been so well-behaved. Then grabbed random snacky foods from the pantry. We had popcorn, rice chex, rainbow marshmallows, dried fruit, candy quik, and food dyes.
Next, I grabbed my 3 year old and we started our snack. We mixed all the ingredients, while eating some, while we melted half the candy quik. Then we took all the mixed up goodies and poured it on a cookie sheet.
This part was my daughter favorite! She got to dye one half of the candy quik while the other half was melting. We mixed a pretty pastel pink. When she got tired of stirring the candy quik I allowed her to take a small spatula and drizzle the candy quick on the mixture. While my daughter mixed the other half of the candy quik to make a pastel blue, I mixed up the mixture so the next color wouldn't take over the pink. Again when she was finished she drizzled the blue along the mixture.
The hardest part is letting it sit for a few minutes to harden up a bit! Once it was finished I put the mixture in several baggies. One for when we went to the theater (shh! Don't tell) and three more (one for her, me, and her daddy).
It is so good and the best part is you do not have to use the oven!
